I thought I would compile a list of what we should pack, as us NEWBIES who have never stayed away at a show before, have no idea?
I will start with the obvious and perhaps you can tell us more?
1. Horses 2. Saddles / bridles 3. Passports 4. Haylage / hard food

Buckets \(for water and to bath) hard feed (we bag them up so you dont end up taking full bags of feed) haynets suncream - hats - wet weather gear wellies / paddock boots I always take a nz / dress circle lycra and a night rug ... Try to plan you wardrobe so you dont take loads of spare clothes , Food - depends on your lorry and what facilities you have in it ... If you have a fridge but no freezer take some frozen stuff and pack freezer packs and use that food first!! I will think on and other stuff that come to mind I will add!!! ;D

Baler twine, a hammer, and a few nails and staples, have had to do running repairs on boxes before they are fit to put your pony in sometimes! A penknife is handy too. Torch and spare batteries, loads of loo roll, flip flops for the showers, and if you are going to malvern, take a clean plastic dustbin to decant their water into on the few times you can get it out of the tap! I always tend to take more hay/haylege and bedding than I would normally use at home as they spend more time needing to be occupied, and if it rains and the ground gets soft, more bedding is always needed, but not at showground prices. I always pack extra rugs and nz's if it turns nasty, the temp boxes can be like wind tunnels and very draughty and cold, and the roofs cant be relied upon to keep the rain out. I can probably think of loads more stuff, but thats my basics for the moment.

Bottle opener.
And turnout rugs for the stables if it's not dry, they do tend to leak.
Loo roll, all of the above. Really warm thermals for the nights unless you have a lovely new insulated and heated lorry!!!

If you've the room, I'd take spare headcollar, bridle, stirrup leathers. In case something breaks. Oh and plenty of cash because you'll probably be miles from a cashpoint.

On the thoughts of taking Cash - will it be safe in the lorry? Cant take it around the show with me?
Can you get little safes that could be secured in the lorry somehow?

lots of bucket feed as our pony decided she wouldn't eat hay/hayladge when we went to an 2 night overnight stay show - she was so tucked up. Has to borrow some in the send, now always go with half a sach of hi-fi or similar. xxx Have a great time

you can get little led lights with hooks on them think we got ours from a service station, they are great for hanging in the stables or the gazebo, they are one of the handiest things i take to a show. Probably an ebay job Plastic sheeting and a staple gun if you want to cover the windows on your stables to keep the rain out. Laminate your number laminate a timetable with all your class times etc, easy to make on an excel document If you have a generator, bring a padlock and chain to nail it down. for gazebos, splash out and get some fairly heavy duty rachet straps and decent big metal pegs off of ebay, they may just save you gazebo's life! XOXO

We independently hire a golf buggy - around £150 for the week including the dreaded VAT - and this saves on the legs so much as you can transport your saddle, children, husband (!), fees and anything else you may think of.
