Right, so I went to a show with my 13hh, just a pony club one to see how he'd behave. In the ring he behaved perfectly, he was a dream. There was about 13 and he was last. The winner of the hunter class wasn't even plaited and all riders were in snaffles and silks. The next week I qualified him for the RI! I'm not usually competitive or anything, but grrrr that wound me up. Have any of you ever had a bad showing experience?

Yes Unfortunately!!! This weekend I stood out of the placings in my inland class to a woman smoking a f*g and wearing trainers!! I was furious, everyone had made an effort to look smart and the f*g lady took 2nd place!! Then I was barked at by one of the shows helpers, won't be going back there!!!

Loads of bad ones as im sure most members on here have lol . Pony club shows dont even go there Infact ive often found at some little local shows they look at you like you shouldnt be there . But as my daughter is nervous and just of the lead and pony is still green im not exactly gonna be putting her in Hoys qualifiers . We are not exactly top show people just like to turn out correctly and have a clean pony for the show but sometimes get the impression that we shouldnt be at certain shows even though my daughter and pony far from foot perfect at the mo .

I should add that my daughter fell off on sunday , the judge allowed her to stay in to do her show . She did an ok show when others on nice ponies were foot perfect , expecting her to just give my daughter a special and say well done but she put her 3rd in a large class . In the inhand we were beaten by a pony who is the mascot for the charity that the show was inaid of , the judge went on to tell my daughter she had the best pony in the class . Cant be annoyed about that one though as it was a charity for a blind childrens nursery so they had a nice photo op . A friend at the same show was third to a pony who was hopping lame that was sent out of one class so went on to do another class [ it was a class that included jumping as well ]

i have, some judges just dont like certian types, which makes it impossible to do well if youu have a judge like that. Ive been in a class where 1st-6th where all heavy hairy cobs, that didn't look nice, wrong jackets on, etc and i didnt get placed and even many people on the outside commented on how odd it was that i wasnt placed... happend a few times

I had a report of a local 'gala' where the judges didn't place anyone that had been placed in previous classes to give the others a chance!!!!! They actually said that to the competitors in the ring. When the person I know complained to the secretary they said it was the judges decision.......... Now I know we complain about county level etc but that takes the biscuit

Can I just ask the OP what the problem is with a pony being in a snaffle? Just interested. My 10 YO competes in a snaffle and was placed 1st in good company at the weekend. Should we not have got it because she was in a snaffle?
Most people have a bad showing experiance. Just let it go and I wouldn't worry if your pony has qualified for RI.

Yes ive had it with my three girls that i take to shows, the show pony was placed at the end of the line due to having what the judge said was an incorrect lead rein, my veteran and handler pulled up for having a show bit in and told to change to a normal snaffle, then my 6yr old was placed end of the line (winning and placed in ribbons every other show) in the judges words.... due to her manners over the day, even though she has done a good show this time i have not option but to place her there. He also advised to change her from her in hand bridle to her normal bridle and when entering the class asked the young girl why she was in her normal riding bridle, whe we advised he told us to he had no come back, again placing her at the end of the line. Many many events and this is the first time since having the horses (6yrs) that we have showed, cant say im very impressed at this moment in time.

how about this then? lol went to a show today(had bspa qualifiers) my horse, who granted is a "love it or hate it" type i do admit, was place well below the line and was beaten by one that refused point blank and i do mean refused point blank to canter on the right leg in both the go-round or the individual, in the individual it just stopped and despite being whipped and whipped an kicked and kicked wouldnt move, mine on the other hand went beautifully (and yes i am a proud mum) in both bits, and if the one that was placed higher went any where near as well i would have put it down ot "judges opinio" but today was just a p**s-take and i am really peed off ggrrr

Thats locals for you unfortunatley, can tell many a story. I judge localy round here i have types i like as do we all, i put it out of my mind and judge what is in front of me on the day. I dislike welsh Ds yet i had one up 1st in an Equifest m@m class because it gave the best performance and was correct, i even put it up reserve in show, i wouldnt put some thing down the line because i dont like that breed or type. Not all local judges are idiots either!!!
