I enterd my 22yr mare into a veteran horse society area qualifier and won both in hand and ridden and was well pleased with her performance a few hiccups but hey i have qualified before and went to the regionals and came second which was a great achievement im now really dissapointed with no disrespect to the V.H.S as i admire greatly the work they do for the older horse and pony but im really mad a peeved that the north west regional qualifier is to be held at arena uk lincolnshire which would mean travelling my horses for over 3 hours to get her there and then expect her compete in 2 classes and then travell her back which i dont think is fair on any horse let alone an old bird is any one else in the same position like i say no disrespect but wheres the welfare for the veteran in that please say if im speakin out of turn i dont want to upset any one im just really gutted

I want to go to the 2 day show but it's a week after the amateur champs in arena uk, which is 8hrs driving for us. Mine is only 17 and very fit but she'll never cope with that journey twice in 7 days so have decided to stay home. I'm gutted to, thankfully our regional is an hour away.

Can't you go the night before and stay over so she gets rest? I can understand your concern, but doesn't the winner of the regional qualifier qualify for Olympia which would mean a long journey for most of the finalists and they seem to cope okay.

There are more regional finals accessable in the north west: Shires and hargate are both closer than arena uk if you live north west way, though i think it would also be worth getting an overnight stable for the linconshire one, like guestless said 2008 Regional Finals Aug 9th VHS Champs Regional Clare Frost Suncrest 119 High Lane Brown Edge Stoke on Trent Staffs ST6 8RT 07940 126262 Aug 10th Manor Grange Fm Regional Mrs J Senior Manor Grange Fm Cobcroft Ln Criddling Stubbs, Knottingley W Yorks WF11 0AZ 01977 676411 Sept 21th Great Chart Show Regional Mrs J Bourne 1 Station Road Pluckley Ashford Kent TN27 0QU 01233 713845 Sept 20th Scottish National Eq Regional Kaz McCoy S.N.EC Eccelsmachan Eccelsmachan West lothian EH52 6NH 01506 865714 Sept 7th South West Welsh Regional Ms E Jones Trevenn Cottage Marshgate Camelford Cornwall PL32 9ST 01840 261492 Sept 6th British Elite Show Regional Nicola Lears 157 Hughes Street Bolton Lancs BL1 3EZ 01204 847887 Sept13 th Bowes Agri Show Regional Mrs R Tranter West View Farm Boldron Barnard Castle Co Durham DL12 9RQ 01833 631125 Sept 13th Shire Inter Club Regional Clare Frost Suncrest 119 High lane Brown Edge Stoke on Trent Staffordshire ST6 8RT 07940 126262 Sept 21st Hargate Arena Regional Clare Frost Suncrest 119 High Lane Brown Edge Stoke on Trent Staffordshire ST6 8RT 07940 126262 Sept 27th Sunnybank EC (Wales) Area also Clare Frost Suncrest 119 High Lane Brown Edge Stoke on Trent Staffordshire ST6 8RT 07940 126262 Sunnybank EC Regional Clare Frost Suncrest 119 High Lane Brown Edge Stoke on Trent Staffordshire ST6 8RT 07940 126262 Hope this helps, hope to be seeing you all at the regionals and at arena uk ;D

Still dithering with my decision!! Want to go, daughter wants to go to amateurs the week before, we live so far away it's very expensive to do both, but, my main concern is for Evei our veteran, she loves going to shows but sleeps like the dead the following day! Yep, she's fit but puts her heart and soul into a show class and that could be her downfall! STILL UNDECIDED.

:'(why not do amateurs with one pony and veterans the next week with the other, both shows will be less stressful with just one and both ponies get to do a show , easy as that, maybe not !!!!!!!!!!

You'd think so wouldn't you, when you give kids a choice not so simple! She wants to take both the vet and sp to amateurs because she actually competes against herself!!! Strange, I'll explain, if she gets palced with sp then she tries to get a better placing in the shp class with the other pony. Whichever pony wins (by points, 1st gets 3 points, 2nd gets 2, 3rd gets 1, then we sit in the lorry and add them up, also helps with her mental arithmetic!)gets 2 extra mints!! She says she prefers to do this then she doesn't worry about who's in the ring!!

sorry reply to all i have looked into getting an overnight stable but still dont think it would be very fair on her due to the fact she doesnt settle very well and isnt an easy mare to say the least i was just putting ma concern across as to the north west regional i had qualified for was so far away and im not disputing the fact that there are closer shows to enter her in even though she is very fit and healthy i dont want to put her through standing on a box for three hours as for the comment made to the fact if we qualified for olympia then she would travel for longer the fact is i had already looked into this and we would ov travelled her down by train not road.thankyou to evryone for your help but i have made my mind up not to go i cant do it just for my own peace of mind i dont want to stress heer out and i dont think she would still have the same twinkle as usuall and id want her to be on top form.and to emmajane my mare is tb x conny .

tesskat, I didn't know you could still travel horses by train - is it cheaper than diesel in a wagon?
It could catch on!
