I rode last night for the first time in two years, my bum knows about it this morning. I do know why I hate riding out in summer, the flies were horrendous.
Would appreciate your views on the various fly sprays on the market etc and what works for you. the stuff I have did not seem to make any difference at all.
Also we have brought our youngster back from being broken and he has mild sweet itch, he has got a boett look-a-like rug and he is going out in the field around 8am and being brought in around 6ish and smothered in fly repellant. I have been leaving his rug on in the stable. Am I doing the right thing any hints and tips with sweet ichly ponies would be gratefully appreciated.

I use maggot oil, designed for fly strike in sheep, I get it from my local animal health shop, I haven't found anything to touch it as far as keeping flies off is concerned.
