I just think some classes are now so big judges are struggling to cope. For example M&M FR classes this year have all had between 30 and 40 in a class. There were 50 entered at 3 counties but fortunately not all turned up, still the ring didn't finish until 7:20 pm! The judges had been stood in the ring for over 4 hours in almost constant rain, I know I couldn't do it.
What can be done to improve matters? May be it is time for two classes like the Micordemolition M&M FR at NPS champs where you have a dartmoor, exmoor and shetland class and a welsh class? This could be followed by a championship where the champion qualifies for HOYs.
Or perhaps to help the younger competitors or younger ponies the class could be split by age. Riders 9 and under, and riders 12 and under, followed by a championship where the champion qualifies. Or ponies 6 years and under, and 6 years and over followed by a championship.
Maybe the rider's age limit should be brought down by a year ?
The split classes could have set times in the schedule to help you get your pony ready. Maybe the M&M LR and M&M FR classes shouldn't follow each other?
