In preparation for the new website, I would like input from the members for this section. I'd like to pull a list of questions together so that all the featured people are asked the same things. So, who would like to start? Please add any proposed questions to this thread. Anyone who would like to be featured, please PM me (you have to be a registered member to use the PM feature). Thanks.

The feature will be on the website - I don't think people will be able to comment on it, it will simply be a webpage. If someone is energetic enough to start a thread just to slag a featured person off then that says far more about them than it does about about whoever they are commenting on, IMHO!
Perhaps questions about how they got into showing, who their inspirations are, what their aims for the season are, dream horse/pony (other than their own!!), I'll think of some more.

I can assure you that there will be no slating off as you so eloquently put it. The first word of slating this on here will result in a ban and the ISP blocked and to be honest most people that do the slating are the ones that won’t post as a member.
The idea of the amateur page is to have a place where ordinary people get a chance to be seen and also their pony. I know there must be many out there that should have had a bit of press but never had any. This usually happens either because the show is getting no coverage or because there are bigger fish to fry. I have been to shows where the pony that qualified Olympia or stood champion of the Hoys qualifier never even got a mention. No this page is not about Hoys or Olympia. It is about anyone that wants a bit of press or deserves a bit of press no matter what level they show at.

How do you prepare for a show in the week/couple fo weeks running up to it? What do you do the day before a show...hack.school? How long do you warm up for at a show? (depending on what circumstances...fresh pony, no. of classes, etc) Do you plait morning of or night before? What products do you swear by?
Maybe these questions could be put to a succesful competitor/producer AND an amateur? Like a profile of their preparation for a show?
That sort of thing?!

Right. Guestless asked for questions that could be asked for the amateur page. You will notice that the posts that are off topic have now been removed by me. Please don’t make me waste my time by having to remove anymore.

Thanks to those of you who have put down your thoughts. I'll use them to make up a list of questions. Feel free to add any more if you think of any.

I get quite a few letters from people who have read my books and the most frequently asked ones are: 1. How long before your class do you arrive at the show? 2. What tack should I use for whatever class? 3. What will the judge say to me and what should I say in the ring? 4. What is the best thing to get white tails/ socks etc white? 5. How do I make my pony/horse stand still infront of the judge/ for the rosette/ in the line up? The question of the moment seems to be how much weight should my pony be carrying? I also get really wacky questions such as can you us emulsion paint on dirty socks and so on!! Maybe you should have a section for silly/funny questions that people ask.

I think the question above about what piece(s) of grooming kit could you not do without is good, also what piece of tack.
Also do you set yourself goals at the beginning of each season. Obviously most are looking to HOYS etc but if you have a talented youngster would you be inclined to go more slowly and look for progressive achievements?

Have also had a run of questions about lorry/trailer regs which I know nothing about and have to look up every time. How about a section for new rules? There is a new regulation coming in about speed limiters on lorries carrying livestock for example and it could be lifted wholesale off the VOSA page and put onto our page.

Fetherston, brilliant and a practical idea - an absolute must for people like me who just cant keep up with the never ending stream of legislation designed to trip me up but lets every other non mot, non tax holding, non working, drug taking sub human get away with murder (and a lot else)
oh you can tell I am having a bad bad day!

Good questions papahotchie, but if we asked everyone to give us 10 tips for everything, I think we would scare most people off Maybe could alter them slightly though

i think something on the lines of what would you not leave home without, when going to a show, also essential items to pack in your lorry, also a handy tips section would be good.

Hi there is a company called www.christiesdirect.com based in Ireland that sell products to the cattle showing fraternity it is excellent especially the ringshine which is a lot cheaper than horse products .Any item with the name horse or equine put 50% on the price, I cannot see farmers paying for expensive products. Delivery is good and prompt.
