I have been told by an owner to 'sweat' her pony to get it's naturally big crest down by seriously over-rugging & wrapping it in plastic. I have no experience of doing this or if it works but feel very uncomfortable doing it. Does anyone have any experience or ideas as to whether it works or not because as far as i'm concerned all it would do is dehydrate the pony? I always thought a restricted diet & lots of exercise and a slowly but surely approach was better? Constructive comments most welcome!

I am trying to reduce the neck size of my horse- the body is just fine but the neck too much, if I reduce feed etc. I find that the body slims down but the neck stays the same! Fortunately I bought some years ago a sweat wrap from an American internet site (sorry can't remember the name), it is made of the softest neoprene with the outer being fuzzy felt type material, it is kept in place by velcro. Horsey wears it when worked and for about half an hour afterwards in the stable after which the neck is washed off. It is slowly reducing the size of the crest and would highly recommend it! Try google I am sure you will find one and they are not a fortune either.

We use it every time we ride (5 times a week) until we have the desired result, if left on for half an hour afterwards it carries on working. It is very soft and a little like a wrap so it does not restrict in any way. The results have been excellent and the horse does not bat an eyelid.............
