Also have a 4 weeker with lots of bald patches on face, neck, front and back legs. Pretty sure this is just coat changing that is happening too quickly for the new coat to keep up. Have had this before. Unless there is any redness or skin breakage I don't think your bald bits have been inflicted by anyone else.

Is the shampoo pale blue and called vetguard? My mare got this last summer all over her face. Took weeks for it to clear We used the shampoo, but none the wiser as to what caused it - the vet didnt really know. Now out connie has got it on his legs. Beginning to think it must be something in the fields? Do you have sheep where your horses are kept? Only asking as we do and if you do to, that could be the answer?! Hope it clear up soon

Foals usually look like this when they are shedding their foal coat and get itchy with it. My 2 month old foal currently looks like a moth-eaten patchwork quilt and loves leaning into fences to get another random bit of coat out and add to the designer look afffect

Are there any field licks in the field?
Sometimes the mares lick the field licks, and then lick the foals with their sticky tongues, causing bare patches on the foals!
Just a thought!
Regards
Richard

sounds like ring worm to me ....it can live in wood for a long long time and then appear un announced ! If soput Canetsen on it better than the fungi shampoo stuff . we also have a horse near us that is allergic to flies ( had to go and be allergy tested as no one had a clue why it had these bald patches )...and gets bald spots . But is now on medication and seems ok ...good luck ..hope it clears up !

Are there foxes about? It could be Fox Mite (don't laugh) - a friend had a mare whose face was covered in bald weeping patches - finally vet diagnosed Fox Mite and an application of Frontline (I think) did the trick in days. Just a thought.....

We had something similar with a mare a couple of years ago. We had two vets out-one said ring worm, the other said a fungal infection. We treated her for both and used the fungal shampoos, kept everything that went near her disinfected (including ourselves;we stank!!!). In the end it took ages to clear up and we were never sure what it was? Sorry, I've just realised this isn't particularly helpfull. Our mares was mostly round her face but some on her body too. In the end we started to see some hair growth and eventually she looked normal again!!!
