Have I been reading the PUK membership system correctly? We weren't thinking of joining PUK this year, however had a quick flick through of the new membership system...
It seems to be that you have to become a 2012 member of PUK to qualify for the summer champs, then you have to become a 2013 member in order to enter the summer champs? Or have I just read it wrong?

I'm not sure, I'm finding it rather confusing? Usually find the membership quite simple but on a yellow sheet which came in the post, it said something about joining again in August? You could be right I could just be reading it wrong!

This year there changing it. So after the summer champs membership will need to be renewed. So it works u are a member for both champs and u don't need to worry in renewing between winter and summer if that makes sense

So I joined in june, so does that mean I don't have to re-join until June this year in order to compete at champs, HOYs etc??

i spoke to them to the other day and think this is the situation.
it is currently a rolling 12 month membership, join when you like, covered for a year. They are changing to a set 12 month period for membership (like BSPS). To make this more inclusive (sensibly I think) they are going to start their 'year' in August. This means an annual membership will cover both their champs, Summer and Spring.
What I am not sure of is when in August this starts, if its any time, pressumably those of us rejoining now will have an 8 month membership and then start the new system. If its the beginning then it does look as if we will be penalised if we want to enter the summer champs
I hope that sheds a bit of light. Will try to find out about when it is in August.

Exactly! So if we joined in February to do the Winters we'd have to pay again to do the summers! Might work next year & so on but we would have to pay double this year! GOOD BYE PUK!

I rang puk the other day and if you make yourself a member in Feb or so on for winter champs you will still be covered for summer champ entries as entries close before august ,But my issue with them was that if that's the only society your registered with and u do hoys qualifiers after august your not cover unless u renew in august , they told me they weren't doing the renewal in Jan like everyone else because people will be skint after Christmas , But will people not be skint after doing the show season and paying for summer champs entries . I think renewal would be better in October but this is just my thoughts !!!!!!!!

Have just commented on thread in lounge that nowhere on membership form I downloaded this month did it say that membership ran from 1st August. If this is the case I will not pay again and will never join again on principle!

Desmond wasn't on the membership form, it came on a Yellow Sheet in the post with us. Would probably come to you after you've joined.

Hi
To enter the Summer Champs you have to be a member at time of entry. You do not have to become a member again in Augustto go to the Summer Champs 2012.
P(UK) is going to a fixed annual renewal date like the other soceities for 2013. The membership year for 2013 starts on 1st August. This is so the membership year incoporates Winter & Summer qualifiers.
Thanks - Sarah

mcnaughty - I too rejoined in Feb but my understanding after my conversation with the office today is that I can renew next February, will be a member when the entries close for the summer champs so no problem but if I wanted to do winter qualifiers for 2013 I would have to become a member again after 1st August. Fortunately my boys have the winter off so dont need to be a member again until next spring

Well I am totally confused now. When I rang yesterday I was told after 1st August I wouldnt be a member and would need to rejoin to do winters. I received my membership letter today and it states expiry date 27/2/2013 so I rang again. Someone is going to ring me back to explain it!

Does that mean the as we rejoined in January and we hope to do Burghley, and the entries close before August we are ok? It seems very complicated !!!

Right - I had a very pleasant and helpful chat with Sarah from the office today and what I said in my previous post is correct. Whenever you joined for the 2012 season your membersip expires on 31st July 2012! I rejoined last week so paid a full 12 months membersip for 5 months! As entries close in June for summer champs you will be ok as you will still be a member. Tbh I dont think many people will currently have an expiry date of 31st July so I think this will affect and upset a lot of members. I think it might have been better and more considerate to members in the current financial climate to have a reduced membership to get everyone to 31st July and then start the new system. Sarah has suggested that I email my thoughts and comments to info@poniesuk.org and she will pass them on to the appropriate people. One thing I wouls say is that Sarah and other members of staff are just passing on information given to them by the board.
Heath - I asked about Burghley as we want to do it - you dont have to be a member to do qualifier at summer champs you only have to be a member for the finals of the National Championships

Press Statement 29.3.2012
The Board of the Association has listened very carefully to the concerns of their Membership regarding the proposed renewal date for the 2013 Membership. In depth discussions have taken place within the Board and it has been decided to revert to the rolling membership criteria of 2011 and 2012 and review the most beneficial way to come in line with all other Showing Societies in 2014.
Members who have already renewed for 2012 will automatically be deemed a rolling member as in 2011. Members are reminded that correspondence will be by email and all post should be sent to the Administration Office Unit 1, The Old Farmhouse, Oakley Park, Llandinam, Powys, SY17 5BE Tel: 08456804874 Email: info@poniesuk.org

All very confusing! I presume this means that if I do my membership now they have decided it covers me for 12 months? We qualified 12.2 SP, 13 SHP and PB last weekend, but as I am not a member I have another week to do memberships (so need to make a quick decision)! I'm a bit out of touch as not done PUK for a few years in favour of BSPS/HOYS qualifiers!!. I'd hoped the move to being a member of any of the "big 3" (ie, PUK, BSPS,NPS) was a positive move to put us all in a better position to support the shows we enjoy, rather than dividing loyalties (and entries) between them!

Please see the press statement issued. To compete at the finals you need to be a 2012 member. The membership year will run for 12 months from the day you take it out.
