Evidently there is an urgent appeal for anyone with horse transport in this locality to rescue 40 or so horses who are at risk if the dam near Rotherham bursts. Radio Sheffield is asking the horse world to put the word out. Although the road is currently closed they are allowing horse transport in and out. Will post link to appeal as soon as possible. Please contact anyone you know in this area!
Thanks.

Phone number for Radio Sheffield who will give you rescue co-ordinators details 0114 279 6699. ...where are the RSPCA when they are really needed? If they hadn't spent so much money on the anti hunting campaign several years ago they would have plenty of money to hire every available horsebox/driver!!!!!!

I believe they are looking for some accomodation for these rescue horses too. Will re check and find which is the most direct contact number in case any on here can offer assistance or know anyone who could accomodate a pony or 2. Anything safe would do ..a small paddock/spare stable? ?

A local comprehensive school has offered its playing field as a secure, temporary place for these horses. There is still a need for offers of transportation and some accomodation if anyone has any suggestions. I don't think they have started to move them yet. I suppose that a serious risk assement must be made for any would be rescuers. Emergency services are involved in the co-ordination so this should be properly organised. Not certain if these horses all belong to one person, or a livery yard, rescue centre etc.

To think I USED to put money in their collection boxes!!! I'm afraid I live miles away otherwise I'd like to help. I do hope you manage to get them all moved safely. Good Luck.

Think that this effects two big livery yards. If you've seen the news where there are shots of water either side of M1 from helicopter - this was grazing for one of them! The other is accross vally from the Ulley resevoir. There are also lots of private yards/fields in that area
We have no transport at moment and our yard is full - we only have 6 stables and 2 acres, 6 ponies.. But will help if they need people there to help move horses. I'm spreading word.

Rain rain - I have heard this is a livery yard too. I think some of the owners who have transport have moved their animals - and some others. Not sure of the current status of this situation. If anyone hears/reads any further info please post update.
I think I will print this thread off and make our ponies read it tonight to make them realise what lucky boys they are to be tucked up dry, safe and snug tonight!!!!! Fingers crossed for all those equines in that area.

The situation is under the control of the emergency services who it seems don't want the horses moved (must be a good reason you would imagine!!). Owners have been recommended to leave.....but are not reluctant as you may imagine. Surely the logistics of moving a large number of horses are not so difficult (we all do it every show day)? There must be some other imminent danger: the dam bursting/power lines down etc. I think there have been plenty of offers of help - but just in case please offer lodging for horses / transport if you are able to and in the area!

We have just been in touch with Steven who said they are just moving the last 18 horses and that the response from the horse community has been fantastic, so hopefully all should have somewhere to go.

Funny how it takes a situation such as this to make us realise that we have a very strong sense of community within the horse world. Ok, we have our differences....however, whenever anyone has a crisis there is always an offer of help round the corner.
Well done to all concerned.

Hope this all turned out okay. I am too far away to help but it cheers me to see that people will rally round in a crisis.
