Pity the r/horse judges at this show didn't take a leaf out of Mrs Kennys' book (hack judge NPS 15). What a mess they made for themselves, ended up with someone on the deck! I know it was an horrifically busy/noisy show BUT it was the ONLY horse in the ring being so very naughty. What the trainee must have thought that was with them?? Surely after it had reared at least twice in the line, which they watched, they should have sent it out, no they made them all walk on and pulled it in third!!!! It then carrried on rearing and scattering the line up and then she pulled it over and fell off and she walked out of the ring clutching her yellow rozzie, what a laugh. Again it was the only one going nuts, although others had been unsettled in their ride bit. Disgraceful.

As the owner and rider of the above I think it is really quite distasteful that you are obviously having a laugh at someone else's expense, what a sad little life you must lead. I would like to say a huge thankyou to the other competitors and spectators who were extremely sympathetic as to what happened. I would like to point out that the horse is only a baby, he is not naughty he had purely got spooked by the marching band (he had already put up with the motor bike display and household cavalary). His behaviour had been exemplary up until that point, he had gone beautifully for myself (hence why he was called in first) and for both ride judges. It was just unfortunate circumstances. I see you fail to mention that the large riding horse class was postponed until after the helicopter display as the organisers thought it was too dangerous to continue. You may/may not be pleased to hear that he has since won at Royal Norfolk (HOYS qualifier) and was Reserve Champion.

Could I just write to agree and support the owner of the Riding Horse.
The horse was lovely, and had put up with so much. It was an unfortunate accident. I am very pleased to hear that the horse went on to win and qualify at a different show - it derserved to.
I have to say, i lay no blame with the show itself as not being soley a "Horse Show" such other "crowd pleasing" items can prove a distraction and upset to novice or unsuspecting horses.
Unfortunately you dont often know how a horse will react until it is put in that position.

From reading this thread I don't think the first poster meant anything personal or was actually laughing at the misforntune of Wolfie.
I think it was more a general dig at what is more and more bring regularly witnessed, stunning horses (and in some cases not so stunning) being promoted / keeping their places, whilst literally standing on their heads. If this is how classes are to be judged ie no regard to manners and or way of going, we might as well judge them in hand.
It is unforntunate when distractions happen and cause upset, but there was a whole class that had to put up with the same. Out of curiousity was the rider even after coming off allowed to keep her rozzie and prize money? This is what I have gathered from reading this thread. If so and nothing personal, I think that that is wrong and the judges / stewards should have taken it back. IMO and I believe in the rule book riders must to "keep" their places be dismissed by the judge.
At the end of the day, this is not about Wolfie and his / her horse, its yet another display of poor judging. Who wre the judges?

Interesting question - was talking about this at the Royal yesterday.
I have never found a definition of when/how actually the judge dismisses the class (is there one in any of the rule books?)
Should judge say out loud "class dismissed" as at school (!), or is it once you are handed rosette? Or once entire class has rosettes? Once the unplaced horses have left? Or once all cards are signed and long winded paperwork and photos completed? This can be quite a time. Once steward or commentator says go for lap of honour? Perhaps a defining ruling needs making?
Glad to hear horse and rider in quetion unhurt and have put the incident nehind them. County Shows can be a very challenging environment for baby horses.
