My daughter is taking her first ridden (Sec A) in an olympia class. She always competes in a wilkie but should we use a pelham/ double reins for this class? She is only 7. Thanks!

sweet, only 7! you should probably go for the pelham, but as she is only tiny why not use a split rein so she only has to hold onto one. i have seen little tots use these even at olympia. good luck.

Get your daughter to ride in an ordinary snaffle with two reins on the bit. This will give her practise to hold the two reins and not give the pony a fright when she makes a mistake, I taught my daughter to cope with double reins like this and she rode her pony in a double bridle aged 7
