For a number of reasons I'm thinking I might lease a quality pony that should do HOYS classes etc next season - has anyone any experience from either side - leasing a pony to someone or leasing from someone? What sort of amounts are charged. I would want the pony on a named producers yard.

I can never see the point of this from a leasees POV with a novice pony(I can understand if it was an open pony). If the pony is on a named producers yard, they are doing you a double favour; paying to HAVE the pony and saving you the cost of having it produced.
I would imagine something in the region of £3k per year for a more sucessful pony. For an unknown-nothing, as by the time they have put all that money and effort into a novice, they may as well have bought one and seen some money at the end (selling it).

As a breeder I would/have lease out anything for free to a show home. Why charge for it it free show production at the end of the day!

If you loan [FREE] make sure your agreement doesn't allow for the pony to then be leased on. Many loan agreements mention "sale" but not lease.

I leased a very well known pony of mine to someone and they firstly did not pay the agreed lease mon ey and then sent him back in a terrible state. I personally would never do it again.
