After speaking to several people who were in the D class I think you should watch what you are saying about how there ponies are schooled! Several of them that would not canter for her are county winning cobs that are push button rides and Very well schooled!! And they didn't run on they just looked confused with her aids! You don't ask for canter with both legs!!!! Felt I needed to reply here! Having entered the world of ridden M&M's, after having a riding horse for so long! County winning cobs, may go well for their regular riders, but horses that have been schooled to have ride judges on, HAVE to go into canter when asked on the correct lead, REGARDLESS of the WAY they are asked That is the art of schooling a horse/pony for a ride judge!

For heavens sake what does it really matter unless your ego is sky hugh there are far worse things happening in the world than ponies. Crawl down your ladders and live.

My D was in the Kingsford class and is a lovely ride but on this day the judge could not get him to canter, this pony was pulled up to 2nd at the royal welsh with a ride judge and the year before, she did have a few ponies to ride though and im sure did a good job with most, I was a bit dissapointed on the day though as my las is a brill ride for anyone, Not on that day though

Apologies for changing the track of the original thread, but I have always used both legs for canter, as horses/ponies are trained to move away from the leg, and therefore one leg applied would just mean go sideways. The other leg is required to support and say go forward off the leg rather than go sideways.

My pony is schooled to have several people on him, he is not just ridden by me at home but also by my cousin sometimes. He went into canter in the D class with no hesitation to doing so, hence his result of 2nd and then going on to be champion.
