Calling all traditional / native showing people..... I am planning to show our 4yr old welsh x tradtional gelding this season and i'm looking for advice on how to keep his feathers clean after bathing without getting that 'overly bandaged' look that never seems to brush out no matter how hard you try!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated - this is a new area so any tips on products / turnout etc would also be nice. Thanks Sam

Thanks Caroline, I may have to go out and get some stable chaps before our first show What is a 'blue dolly bag'? Is it like the blue crystals that you can get to put in the rinsing water? Thanks Sam

Yeh dolly bag is what they used to use in rinsing water for curtains and whites can still get them on amazon I think better than blue stuff you can buy from equine places just a little muslin bag with stuff inside that you put in rinsing water then lift the bag out and use the water

Please remember that the equine blue rinsing stuff is designed to be used on equines but the dolly bag isnt so is probably stronger . That may be why it works better . Maybe do a small patch test in a place that isnt to noticable first to check your pony isnt allergic ot it

I use Thermatex cordura-covered leg wraps after bathing, they dry them off quickly and keep legs clean.

Mix some chalk with water to form a paste and then rub into feathers whilst they are still damp. We find that this coats the individual hairs in such a way that any dirty marks acquired whilst drying just brush out

I use thermatex leg wraps on our section C's legs after bathing-white paste them and then put them on. Lovely in the morning and the wraps help dry his legs.

Yes, how do you make your own? I'm not particuarly good at sewing i'm afraid, so if it involves too much of that it would probably be safer for me to buy them.
