Last night at the yard we all were moaning about the rain again and how bored we were with our frequent wet t shirt and pony competitions. Its getting us down we all said, another show cancelled this weekend.
I am fed up I said of cleaning wet tack....
and then..... last night I visited my cousin, summened by a phone call from my mother, the flood water had gone down and the family were going in to help clean. (I was so switched into my own little world I hadnt even given a thought to them flooded, I am sure someone did mention it). But dutifully and rather than suffer the wrath of my mother, of I trotted, bottle of lemon Cif in one hand - I like the smell - wine in the other. Joules wellies on just incase it was a bit wet still
Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to see what I did. I got there, silt covered the garden, and the whole of the downstairs (once layden with cream carpets) up to the fourth step. Ants were frantically trying to climb up the units and fireplace as their homes had been destroyed and they were seeking dry. The smell was like sewage.
I felt so so ashamed, I am so into my own world of busy busy that although someone had said they were flooded, I said oh dear how awful and then went on my busy life.
Move in with us , till its done ....I found myself saying, we cant they said as people now think its empty and keep trying to burgle us. I just cried for them, my heart goes out to people who are in the same situation as them because unless you see it, really see it, you just cant comprehend the destruction water can cause. It all happened in minutes.
