make sue you know who you are going under, they are frowned upon by many judges, and rightly so....

What a load of rubbish, I have never had a judge frown upon this bit and they certainly shouldn't be frowned upon, they are lovely bits if they are in the right hands, like any bit really. A bit is as severe as you make it.

Couldn't agree more Aimee.!!!!! Exactly !! they are often in the wrong hands, and therefore can do damage, they have become a fashion accessory, as have wilkie snaffles in a double, for goodness sake teach the kids to ride properly and make good hands right from the start. I know that its a 50/50 split with judges, and all I am saying is if you are going to use one, make sure you know the correct 50....Believe you me there are plenty of judges out there, that do not find them acceptable in the ring. They were even an issue at the judges conference, and many of the judges there were not impressed with them. I am sorry you probably dont want to hear this, but it is a fact. thankyou for listenting..

Surely it is better for a pony to be going in a safe way.
If the pony is not fussing in his mouth and under control then surely the pony must be happy in heis bit.
A judge is not there to judge what the horse is wearing.
They are there to judge how the horse performs.

Cath, yes i am part of the 50% that know how to use them, we already use one on another animal, but need it for tomorrow as ours is being used. A plain snaffle is cruel in the wrong hands and as for teaching the kids to have good hands, not much help when the pony is strong to start with. As for riding him through this and for schooling to encourage lightness...... you try it with a 17 year old welsh cob stallion that has rewritten the tricks book.
