All sorts of stories (rumours?) going round about the Royal International!! A showjumping competitor told a friend that the stable area is in standing water....and someone else said they may change dates (unlikely in this already busy time!!!).
Still 2 weeks to go......

Having travelled around much of the southern part of the UK over the past few days, there is not any standing water (apart from where it is meant to be!) The ground is drying up really fast - in fact our lawn looks like it could do with some rain ... (and it will be getting it later according to the forecast!)

Looking out on the school playing field here in N Wilts, the ground is already cracking. Was at Northleach on Saturday and to be honest the ground was great, just a few 'wet' spots

Nice to hear other people are hearing the same silly rumours that I have heard. North of England on Saturday was full of people saying that is was cancelled. I am sure it will take a lot to cancel it - lets face it, it has been pretty wet there in years gone by yet it has still gone ahead!

People were saying that to me to but i wld be surprised, area 16 at ipswich on saturday the ground was hard!!! I think because it is windy the ground has dried up quite quikly and i am sure they are more than competent at RIHS to flatten the ground out etc lets just pray for no more rain in between, i love the RIHS x

Sounding like it is drying up dont know how anyone can say the stable area is under water as they are usually on a steep slope at least mine normaly are, i even promise i will not moan no matter how far down the slope my stables are situated even when i am ready to collapse after carting tack feed haynets etc up and down all day long, as long as the sun shines and we can go and have lots of parties and trips to the chinese rest

The H&H reporter told my sister at the NOrth of England that she had heard that the GYS had been cancelled - fortunately I was able to stop that rumour by calling GYS, but it is getting silly now. Someone says they can't see how a show can go ahead, the next person says they have heard that the show may not go ahead, and the next says the show is cancelled.

we need to keep checking websites and keep the gossip to a minimum until there are official announcements on cancellations.... the same happened with Royal Lancs today !

I wonder if they are confused with the Royal which certainly DID have water in the stable area.

Hmm, sat here at work and this is making me really look forward to our stay at Hickstead!! Going to give the lorry a proper clean this weekend (no shows for usb between now and Hickstead!! Meant to be catching up on house work...well, doing the lorry is housework...sort of!).
Found a lovely food stall last year that did all sorts of olives and "designer" bread!! Just the thing with Pimms at lunchtime!
Roll on Hickstead!

The olive men will be there again this year. Saw them at the Derby Meeting and they said they would be at RIHS. Not much business for them at the Derby meeting though - but it was nice to have plenty of space to sample all the olives properly.

Echo the person that said all the rumours about cancelled shows is getting silly. Check the websites, don't listen to gossip - and unless it's crucial, DON'T call the show secretary - certainly not until you have checked the relevant website at the very least. Must be driving them all mad, and a big waste of officials time when they could be doing more useful things in preparation for shows (partcularl if dealing with 'testing' conditions), or if voluneteers, getting on with their own lives! If I had a £ for everytime I have read "I rang GYS Show and they say it's going ahead.." I'd have bought a new horse by now! Great people that are keen (desperate?) but the poor staff must be worn out!

Actually, GYS were quite organised and had an ansaphone message. People need to know as soon as possible about cancellations for obvious reasons. Funnily enough, it was some of the other big show organisers spreading (not maliciously) most of the rumours! It is all very well putting "the show has not been cancelled" on a website, but not helpful if you don't know when the website had last been updated.

It is all very well putting "the show has not been cancelled" on a website, but not helpful if you don't know when the website had last been updated. Ah but are you sure they didn't resort to an ansaphone message aftrer getting so many repetitive cals. Indeed people DO need to know if cancelled - but I am sure the GYS would have announced that if it had been so! Pestering 'will it', 'might it', helps no-one. Admittedly websites do vary in their efficiency and immediacy - but fairly obvious been updated if refers to the weather and status of ground or show's prospects! Simple answer - worried about weather - keep an eye on website - then you will know if been updated because you'll notice? If a show puts specifically not cancelled then I take as read that if it IS, another announcement will follow, or if I am entered, organisers will contact exhibitors within a reasonable time frame.
