My daughter is just 14 and has a pony not much more than 13.2 that she competes in 14hh WHPs. The pony is fab, we all adore him and would love to keep him for another season ....but, she is about 5'5 and starting to look a bit big on him - how much do you think a tall jockey matters in WHP pony showing? Do you think it would radically affect their placings? Thanks!

Quite a lot of the riders in whp (particularly the 14 hand section where you get the widest age range in jockeys...and heights in ponies!) are quite tall on their ponies......with the exception of those children riding the few exceptionally tall 14 handers that are around at the moment!!!!
Joking apart, the main problem in these classes is if the child's height becomes a problem to the pony when jumping. The overall picture is not as crucial as the flat classes, or cradle/nursery stakes. The only time you will probably be marked down is in championships or performance classes where "suitability" marks are given.
If the pony is performing well and your daughter is happy, keep going.

Is this a plaited whp or native? I'm 5'5" and I ride a 13h2 native worker!? I think that the height of the jockey is not as important as the weight. As long as she is light enough to not restrict the pony in its jumping, I'd say you're fine!

It is a plaited (N/F X), he has plenty of bone and though she's tall she is v. skinny - weighs approx 8 stone (if that) so weight isn't a problem, purely for appearances sake really. Thanks for your input - it's what I wanted to hear!
