Well im pretty sure i have never been at a local show with 31 entries, or even 19 in a ridden...?! All my entries in the riddens are over 19, with 44 in one of my workers classes. I aggree that the entries are down, but i think you are exaggerating a little!

I noticed that very popular this year !!

They seem pretty similar to last year to me but there is 9 in one open M+M class now that would have been in the 40's 2 years ago minnie me - i think if you read it again you'll see that was for either the mare only or stallion only ridden class, for which you would expect low entries anyway. Or possibly the members ridden, which is a new class this year and does not get you into eve performance like the normal open ridden novice riddens are still 20 - 30, open riddens slightly less than normal maybe ranging from 15-30

Why do people always have to have a go!!!!!! I have seen more than one olympia qual this year with much less numbers in than are in the breed secxtions at PUK. Dont recall anyone saying they were like a riding club class!!!!!!! Even though my riding club does have larger classes of equal quality than those olympia classes.

It will be interesting to see how many producers go. I have talked to a couple of 'top producers' this year who have told me they aren't bothering this year, not even for the HOYs.

I agree I do think the entries look down and with the enormous costs involved putting these champs on I should think they are a bit worried at P(UK) However the answer definately isn't hiking the entry fees up even more.Value for money is what people want and P(UK) have just about priced themselves out of that market !

To be honest most of the plaited producers don't go to puk as they save their ponies for bsps unless they feel they have a good shot at the supreme and then you see them there.

Don't think the entries are down, just that they have a lot more classes than a few years ago & the entries are more spread out. Nearly too many classes I think!!

I was rather shocked - 7 pages of very small writing crammed packed full of classes, SO many! However I don't really see any drop in numbers. This year will be the first year we don't go, along with many others, but looking at those numbers in classes, on the whole, it looks fairly standard. Remember there is probably people who have chosen to go who wouldn't normally, in the hope that there will be a real drop in numbers... This will be controversial, but in my opinion Ponies UK are taking away their own prestige. IN MY OPINION the titles at Ponies UK are becoming less acclaimed now, 5 years ago it would've been a huge achievement to win one of the national championships, but with the constant addition of other 'leagues' and things its becoming more achievable to come home with a rosette. Also has anyone else noticed the reduction in the size of the sashes?? I used to watch in awe at those who won some absolutely beautiful sashes, laced with gold and rosettes, but they've diminshed to almost just a piece of ribbon! Not that I've ever won one myself, but its just again an example of how more and more money is being ploughed in from members and a complete lack of evidence as to where its going. I am not taking anything away from those who won championships there in recent years and I congratulate everyone who qualifies and goes, but with spiralling costs and such an extortianate number of classes, what are PUK doing?? Bring on BSPS I say

I have to agree here. 15 years ago I came 7th in an open ridden final at PUK Champs. All the top ponies were there (I was the first home produced in my class) and it honestly felt like I had the 7th best pony of it's type in the country on that day. Now it feels like just a good line up, similar to in a RIHS qualifying class, which is such a shame.

I know its quite nasty but I am rather glad there are very low entries in the stallion and mare classes. I spoke to the office when the schedule came out to ask if it was a miss print like last year and was it for mares and geldings not stallions. They were quite rude to me and assured me that this had always been a class to which I replied no cos we won it last year on a gelding. they just said well thats what it is this year like it or lump it.

All the classes we are in, have 23 44 that seems a lot, but i do remember the days on 105 M & M first riddens and wondered how they got away with it on health and safety grounds.
Wouldnt you be grumpy working under "HITLER IN KNICKERS "it seems to me the only pleasant ones are NPS they may be a bit slow and behind the times but they are so sweet when you call them and so helpful.

I have always found BSPS really nice and helpful too. We didn't do P(UK) last year and can't say I missed it. (Though I don't expect they missed us either!) Giving it a miss again this year too. I agree - too many different championships for the same thing so it loses it's prestige and nobody remembers who won what. Now there are lots of other shows that give people a chance to "perform under the lights" maybe P(UK) could go back to fewer evening performances (and more lorry parties!)

my classes seem to have high entries but i do agree they have spilt classes up to much and entries have spread out. not so many people do inhand and the coloureds seem to have a fair amount of entries unlike the plaiteds.

I wish the numbers were down, some of the workers classes are inexcess of 40+! I don't know how some of you can say ' bring on BSPS' I went to BSPS last year for one final, only to have 5 entered in it and 3 turn up.....now where's the riding club numbers?!

im going to puk and going to enjoy it. i feel that theyre not the only ones out pricing themselves i mean bsps are actually more expensive to enter (only 50p but still) and i think that a show is only what you make it, you can go with the attitude its going to be crap , or you can go and make it the best thing since sliced bread. well that my opinion anyway.
