I have a 5YO mare who has started to become very grumpy. She doesn't actually do anythng -just pins her ears back if you ask her to go back in the stable, if you run beside her in hand and when you ask her to trot on when ridden. Back, teeth etcall appear to be fine. She also seems to be in season non stop! I've tried putting her on stroppy mare supplement but she has stopped eating her feed when i put it in! Has anyone any suggestions on what to give a grumpy mare?

If she's in season non stop, then I would get the vet to check her out. She may need some regumate (or something else) to help regulate her seasons. I can understand her being permanently grumpy if she is continually having seasons as she's probably uncomfortable.

I've got a friend whose Section A had it a few years ago and it worked well. She had had problems getting her in foal and she's had 2 foals since (the mare, not my friend, lol!)

I think Regumate is banned for use under certain societies, not sure if PUK is one of them? Perhaps better to check - although I have heard of very good results with it. A friend tried the NAF Oestress and had good results.

Our first ridden pony went from being a total angel to a nightmare permantly in season, she double barrelled me straight across the yard and really did some damage when all I did was walk past her. the vet came and checked her ovaries and then put her on Regumate, the difference was unbelievable she was back to being a total sweetheart again. It is expensive I think it was about £50 a month but it does work. dont bother with supplements you are throwing away good money after bad - Ibet I spet £200 trying them all.

I guess it depends on the reason for the problem. Our young mare got a bit stressy around the time she came into season, nothing too bad. The over the counter supplements work well for her, we have tried the NAF and a couple of others and they work fine.
You sound to have something different if she's in season all the time.
