I had an appt today at Natwest in Bakewell to discuss why they were going to charge me £15.99 per month for services I didn't need! . I wanted to rearrange the appt - several calls - press 1/2/3 etc or enter your personal number (which I don't have) I ended up talking to someone in Mumbai who told me that I couldn't contact my local Bank directly. Think I had already found that out! Has the world gone mad? I have to go thro' Mumbai to cancel an appt at my bank which is 3 miles away from me!

I bank with Natwest and I can call my branch directly. I did make an appointment over the phone with them once - to change my account the same as you - and then I rang in the morning to change the time of the appointment, which was done. Then I got to the Branch at the rearranged time and got some really snotty 25 year old telling me I had missed my appointment - to which I explained I hadnt. She then proceeded to tell me I shouldnt change my account and went through the "benefits" of the account I had and was equally snotty when I told her I didnt want these benefits and I really wanted to change my account. Eventually we did complete the change but it wasnt very friendly!
I then went to another branch of the same bank to query something; and had an equally snotty member of staff telling me that yes I may well work in a Bank but it clearly wasnt a retail bank and I didnt know what I was talking about!! I manage an investment product with $15bn worth of funds and she told me I wouldnt understand how cash moves between banks!! I kept my cool and went home and raised a complaint which was very kindly resolved by one of their directors!

I bank with natwest and can also speak to a person in england. I have a little green card that i've had for years with my personal number on. I just ring the number on there and listen to the options - 1 for statement, 2 for recent transactions etc and I think 5 is speak to an advisor and it's always an english person

If you just do a google "branch area - natwest" you should be able to find the branch number to speak to them direct. Alternatively, put Natwest and then your Sort Code into google and that should bring the branch number straight up to. Let me know if you're struggling and I'll have a look for you Or alternatively pop into the branch and ask for the number from them - they should have business cards to give to customers with contact details on

I'm with HSBC and wanted to transfer some money between accounts, something i can easily do online but as I was in the branch decided to do it there. I had to go to the 'red telephone' in the corner and call telephone banking in India to do it - they don't do that in branch!!
I also wanted some cash out one day but the machine was out of order, couldn't get any out of the branch as I didn't have my cheque book, I did have my card and I have banked their 20 odd years............No, their solution was to go to a shop, do some shopping and get cash back!!! I only wanted a tenner to go to the grocers that only takes cash! I kicked up a fuss and they reluctantly gave me 'my' money (although you would think it was theirs!).
Mine is a very small branch but my god, they think they run the country ;D
I get calls every now and again wanting me to upgrade to a 'better' account that they charge for. I can't see how paying £15 a month is a good deal against paying nothing!
