Does anyone know of anywhere that do side saddle lessons for a child? My daughter is 8 fairly confident and competent neat balanced jockey, she has a fab 12hh pony and is desperate to try side saddle with him. Just for safety though I might try to find her a special lesson first on a pony that has done side saddle before? We are in thee north west (Bury) happy to travel maybe 40-50 miles?? Or even rent a side saddle from somewhere? Thanks

the northern side saddle group hire out side saddles, they will come out and fit to pony and offer great support and advice.

My daughter had a side saddle lesson at Wrea Green EC and really enjoyed it. It's something that she wants to continue in the future. ETA. It is a bit of a trek to get there but worth the journey (we're in Middleton so not far from Bury)

I booked my daughter a side saddle lesson for her twelfth birthday in the christmas holidays! we found somewhere surprisingly local down here in somerset. they suggested we take our own pony but like you i wanted her to ride something that knew what it was doing first! the lady was lovely, the only drawback was she spent half the lesson taking us through the fit of the saddle, in case we decided to pursue it properly, then the riding school pony my daughter rode was a complete kick along which was a bit of a shock after her own responsive pony and she could barely get it out of walk. so not much was achieved in the hour. i think the saddle fitting lesson could have waited until we needed it. my daughter really enjoyed the experience but found it a bit limited, and as a result is not that interested in pursuing it. I am only posting so you can talk to your instructor in advance about how much riding will be done etc!

Absolutely fabulous afternoon lesson with Christine at Wrea Green...super pony, super clear instruction and involving my daughter with where she felt happy with and even cantered large round the indoor on each rein, super fun highly recommend.

Which pony did she ride? I learnt to ride there and we gave my old first ridden pony there to live the rest of his days getting spoilt by children. It's a great place, Christine is a FAB teacher

Emma Brown might be too far to travel (Derbyshire/Leicestershire) but she could definitely hook you up with a saddle! She's fab
