I'm going to be putting our lorry up for sale soon but it occurred to me that my insurance only covers named drivers so anyone who came for a test drive wouldn't be covered. How do people manage this usually? I don't think I've ever really thought about it - even if you're buying a car second hand you usually have a test drive, but if you have comprehensive insurance you would at least be covered to drive another car for third party losses....would comprehensive car insurance cover you for test driving a lorry too?

I think no one wants to admit that they let people test drive uninsured ;-)

Is it not the same as for cars whereby if both the vehicle is insured and the driver is insured on another vehicle then the test drive would be covered third party?

To be fair i think most horseboxes are insured for any driver over 25.
I keep mine insured for over 25's incase I have an accident at a show and someone has to drive the lorry back for me. it has happened to me once, where I took a youngster to a show and he decked me and then ran over the top of my mum, mum was taken to hospital with a fractured neck and I banged my head pretty badly and was in no state to drive lorry home.
A friends husband drove lorry and pony home and my friend took me to A&E as my symptoms got worse!
