My pony hates being stabled in summer. He gets very stressy and weaves/box walks. Funnily enough he does not do this in winter (when he is starving!)
Anyway, he normally stays out 24/7 with a grazing muzzle but how can I manage this with the show season? Should I just leave him and bath very early in the morning or would you still bath the night before?
I don't rug him as he gets very hot and itchy and rubs his fur and mane out with a flu rug but can I do anything else to keep him clean? He is meant to have a straight mane so plaiting might not be a good idea but I could put it in bunches or something?
Fingers crossed he stays clean ish!

Mine were half and half, in the summer out at night to avoid the flies and in during the day, but always happy to be where they were put! That way they had plenty of turnout, but it made it easier to regulate the diet as required.

I had one that used to wind herself up with excitement before a show, having a bath meant going partying so I found it easier to bath her and pop a rug on and leave her out, she stayed far cleaner than if she was in and she was nice and relaxed. She was grey and only had the odd teeny stain. I bathed her, sprayed her before dry with coat shine and then rug. The stains were easy to remove.
I have a Weatherbeeta Kool Coat Airstream Combo rug which on dry days I put on mine that gets very hot and itchy in other rugs, it is cotton and has mesh in sections which lets air through, doesn't rub the mane at all and being cotton keeps her nice and cool. I highly recommend them and am going to get another before they change the design.

Mine are out, i use a Kool Coat too to stop the sun bleaching their coats and they come in 2 days before a show for bath and prep. Mine are in hand ponies and youngsters, i don't believe in having them in for long periods of time for the sake of condition, i think they have better muscle tone being out and moving around. Plus they know what is expected of them, being Welshies they have natural spirit and know to behave in the ring.

Most of mine live out 24/7, a few are in at night. I think it levels them out abit when they are out all the time. Without wishing to have my head bitten off, I think the reason some of the show ponies and horses need soooooo much riding in is because they have very little time outside because they are shut up most of the day and night.

Mine are out 24/7 and in my experience as long as it doesn't rain they keep cleaner out than in I bath in the morning if competing in the afternoon or the day before and rug overnight but I am then early next day to finish them off and clean any dirty bits or if it has rained to change rugs and clean any wet bits

Mine stays out during the summer and i actually think hes cleaner than staying in. I normally wash him night before the show and put a bucas buzz off rain sheet on (half a lightweight half fly) hes welsh and i wait for him mane to dry before loosley bunching it just to keep it all on one side. In the morning i just have to brush him off and damp/chalk his whites before loading.

Mine are out 24/7 in the summer unless weather bad in which case they come in at night. In the winter they are in at night but go out for at least a few hours a day. If the weather is meant to be dry the night before a show then I just bath and rug and leave out as find they stay cleaner out as don't lay in muck. If it looks wet I'll bring in though to avoid muddy legs.
