I came across 2 piglets today out hacking today. The owners of this yard are friends and have recently bought it so invited me in. I thought my pony would freak at the piglets but actually seemed interested in them. I let him sniff them and they started snuffling at his nose. Next thing I knew he was grazing with them. He doesn't seem to mind any animal. Anyone had any pig experiences?

Years ago I lived in Cumbria and one of my friends owned a pig farm, with quite literally hundreds of them, her horses stables backed onto the pig pens and they were just part of normal everyday life, so the horses never bothered about them and quite happily grazed with the pigs too. Even my old horse used to go to visit and we would hack out together and he soon got used to the pigs and was never at all scared of them either. I loved the pigs, they were really bright, clever little things, who would have definitely talked if they could.

Aww, that's great. I love pigs. My stallion is really bonded with one of my Large Black sows, and my wee shetland geldings love them too - although the sows are bigger than the shetlands! I have got piglets at the moment, but they are still indoors, can't wait to put them outside. Most of the mares/fillys aren't bothered but aren't particular fiends with them, I just have one mare who really isn't keen.

We used to use a hacking route at our old yard that went through a pig farm my horse was never bothered by them. Which really did surprise me the first time we went past. He does however have a massive phobia of donkeys as we found out at a show not that long ago! I started to talk to the lady that owned the donkeys to get my pony to setttle down a bit and she said she always parks her box away from others as a lot of horses have phobias of her donkey!
