Does anyone have any experience of a company called 'Rural Insurance'? I have a 14 year old connemara currently insured with NFU, Im really pleased with the service through NFU but his insruance has gone up to £58 per month. I have made a claim in the past, about 2 years ago, but he is now sound and needs no ongoing treatment. I have done a search and used the Horse and Hounds online comparison website which has given me a quote through 'Rural insurance' for £29.04 a month which is obviously a massive saving. Is it one of these like E&L who never pay out should I need to claim again or do you think it would be ok?

I insure our domestic vehicles with Rural Insurance but (touch wood) not had to make a claim so not sure how they are with paying out, etc. I didn't know they did horse insurance tbh.
I also had a mare insured with E&L and didn't have a problem with them paying out when I made a claim. In my experience NFU are very expensive so I suppose read the small print and make sure the policy is right for your horse. That's quite a saving so if all looked OK on paper I think I'd be tempted to change.

I was previously with NFU for 4 ponies and my daughter as a rider. We waited 9 months for them to pay out for my daughter's riding accident and they tried their best to not have to pay. They didn't contact the witnesses on the claim and then said they wouldn't pay as she was riding her own horse. At the time of the accident she wasn't riding her own horse and had they contacted the witnesses it could've saved a lot of hassle. I cancelled the riding insurance after that with them and my renewal was going to be an extra £30 a month just for the ponies.
I've never heard of Rural Insurance but I would be interested in what they are like.

Very good. We have the farm and holiday Cottage with them. Unfortunately we had to claim during the xmas storms and they were great and handled everything very quick. Would use them over and above NFU anytime.

We have our whole farm policy with them. I claimed last year when I tripped over my laptop cable pulling it to the floor and smashing it, was sorted very quickly.
