Hello, I bought a mini Shetty 3 months ago. Recently she has gained a pop belly, now we have very little grass and a tiny grazing area. I asked the previous owner who had only owned her 4 weeks before we got her could she possibly be in foal. A shocking response was she had been running around with colts and a stallion before they got her, to which i was totally unaware of. (they sold her as they was selling up, so not because of this reason). Poppy is only 3 years old and quite small so im worried as this apparent stallion was a pony? the colts was Shetlands. She has never had a foal before but is very protective of her tummy and has started to bite and try to kick whenever you touch or press(gently) on it. This is poppy when we got her... This is poppy 2 days ago... just wondering what I should do next ive got 2 other horses, and had horses for years, just never had any experiences with mothers and foals or foaling. I was told a scan is the only way to be certain the vets out next week so will get her to see what she thinks, but in the meantime what does everyone think. If she is in foal we would be keeping it anyway, poppy has had a tough life and we accepted her the way she is in foal or not. Thankyou x

Yeah best thing you've done is to get her scanned so you can be certain, one of my mares after grass looked like that and we all said she looks like she is about to drop but she was just fat. Good luck with scan x
