What did everyone think of the results, with lough keen dancing Lord only coming 15th!!! I felt alot of them in the final line up were middleweights!

Couldn't agree more. It was a shame but as the others were lighter it made it look out of place which is a real shame as he was the only true heavy weight in the class in my eyes. He went amazing looked fantastic.

The winner rockefella is a TRUE HW at 18.2hh and masses of bone, bought time, had privilidge of putting his supreme sash on twice and needed a step ladder !

I think alot of people are suprised about where LKDL came for such a successful horse, people making comments about it's nice for a fresh face, rockefella been going along time and had been placed previously at HOYS. But personally (and I know a quite few people who think the same) its back end lets it down and is too weak for HW hunter

Part of the reason I dont really like HOYS, the formbook gets thrown out the window!

I love the HW I have one myself , I really liked the hunter judging this year they judged each horse as an equal and not facey which is a lovely refreshing change, I love loughkeen dancing lord but he didn't stand out as much as he has in past years, the same with mw oathhill take the biscuit the hw winner was amazing and I feel he should if got reserve in the champs. I know what you mean about the stamp of the HW a lot of them have more blood in them an look more sport horse rather than the traditional old fashion hunter

Everyone is entitled to there opion but as the owner of oathill take the biscuit he is one of the only true middleweights out there the same goes for the hw lougkeen dancing lord and both horses went foot perfect and both have been unbeaten all year it all comes down to the judges and sometimes they set out to make a point

I’m confused about the weight classes these days – all of the hunters seem huge both in height and body, but not necessarily in bone. I have a pure bred ID, he is 16.2 and has 9 & ¾ inch of bone and he is trim but deep and solid, but there is no way he has the height or body mass to be a HW. In fact I think he’d be lost among the MWs
Hovis – genuine question and not meant in a confrontational way, but what do you mean about the judges making a point ?

Michael Tory will mark a horse down if he thinks it is overweight. He told me my cob was too fat this year when all other judges and a couple of well known producers said he was spot on.
Did not see the classes but from al reports it does seem he favoured the leaner horses.

In general this year at many shows they have wanted hunters to be sporty and fitter looking, still they want the bone but not the additional weight
