Hi my newly gelded pony has been done 16 days ago now , can anyone tell me if its safe to now mix him with the others , my vet said after 10 days he will no longer be fertile is this right ?

if you are turning him out with mares/fillys i would leave it 2-3 months , but then im no vet , but thats what i would do !!!

Yes its a mixed heard , and thats what im worrying about , he has a big paddock he can graze in so think ill just keep him seperate x

I always understood about 8 weeks before they're infertile.

I would also be waiting 8 weeks - better safe than sorry! No reason why he couldn't have a gelding from the herd for company if the paddock is big enough, though.

Thanks and yes we use it to ride in during nice weather , its not really a turn out paddock but he can use it if hes not going to go crazy , altho this morning he was not happy in there so hes back in his stable ,

I am quite shocked that a Vet told you 10 days, I would leave it 3 months, for one thing you want him to forget he was a colt along with being infertile.

Totally agree with GillWales, had my colt gelded last year and was told 8 to 12 weeks at least!

Yes I do agree and thought it seamed to soon so rang a few diff vets for advice and most said 4 / 6 weeks so im gonna leave it atleast 6wks and rreview him , hes lucky to have a place to stretch each day so gonna stick with that
