hi I am looking for some people who have horses who have an old splint to try an experiment. the reason being is that my horse had quite a large splint, I tried lemons and magnetic boots which did not seem to make any difference so I thought it was there to stay, he was never lame and I have never rested him. He is a coloured with white legs and gets very dirty knees and I started using white vinegar sometimes to help get rid of the green stains, after a while I noticed the splint seemed to be going down, so I started spraying the splint every day and giving it a small rub to make sure the hair was wet through and now the splint is practically gone. The white vinegar did not blister the splint or cause any change to the hair at all so is completely safe. What I am wanting is for somebody else to try it to see if it helps their horses splint and it is not just a coincidence and my horses splint would have disappeared on its own. If it does help it might be something to add to the list of things to try before going to the expense of splintex etc.

Was it just a bog standard vinegar? I have a couple with old splints and literally just ordered some splintex half an hour ago! Wondering if it will work with a boney bit on my ponies face he got a kick on his nose and under his chin so has two bobbly bits there too!! Think I'll give it a shot

Never used it for this purpose, but white vinegar and white malt vinegar are two quite different things, I use white vinegar for various cleaning stuff & the malt version would not do the trick....

The white vinegar I have is from the pound shop, the stuff you clean windows with, not sure if other kinds of vinegar will work
