so as tittle states i am want to set up a full livery business. i have a diploma in horse welfare and management. i have my bhs stage 1, My bhs ride and road safety and my bhs stage 2 for both riding and care. my parents bought a yard many years ago and we have always ran it as Diy our facilities are: -32 acres of turnout - 19 stables - Flood lit menage - horsebox/ trailer parking - loads of secure storage - wash bay - all year turnout - individual tack rooms -brew room -cctv I would like to offer a service of care either part or full what would people expect to pay for ; full livery where I am responsible for the overall care of your horse. including vet/farrier/dentist visits. would people expect to pay less for full livery if i wasnt to ride your horse? full livery would include hay and a bale of bedding and would include use of all other facilities. hard feed would be bought by owner. Part Livery: what would people expect to pay for this and what would they expect it to include? Also what sort of insurance would i be looking at needing? can anyone reccomend a contract for both owners and myself? we are also in the m26 area as i understand location plays a part in the price. Thanks guys.

I commend your enthusiasm but I read your post and felt like you want someone to set a business up for you which you could then manage???
Surely if your parents run a livery yard at present and have done for many years they have insurance and a contract in place which would just be tweaked??
Have you spoken to any of the liveries?? Asked their opinions??

I would expect more than 1 bale of bedding per week for full livery, and yes I would expect to pay less when there is no exercising involved. From talking to a number of people with horses, both on yards I've been on and people I work with. People don't necessarily want to have full livery per se, they want something that fits in with their work and family life. So I would try and be flexible with what people need, having been on full livery myself, I've also found that it's less of what the owner really wants and more of what the YO wants to do. Just something to bear in mind!

i also thought full livery would include all bedding, hay/haylage and hard feed, exercising is usually included as well. it is basically all the horses needs included and the owner just comes and rides as and when they want. i agree a more flexible tailor made approach would be more popular these days, a lot of people work full time and need full livery during the week and would enjoy doing there own at the weekend.

When I've looked in the past this is generally what I've found: full livery 7 days a week to include all hay, bedding (with a maximum fair amount per horse) turnout, bring in, obviously all stable jobs done, feeding morning and night, rug change, leg wash/grooming as needed and all hard feed included, exercise would come at a further amount. From £90 -£150 depending on facilities and standard of yard but generally most were £100 Part livery normally means turnout/bring in and rug change, stable jobs done, hay and a bale of bedding a week, feeding morn and night, hard feed would be bought by owner, normally part livery is 5 times a week like when people are working but could be flexible to suit each of the owners working hours, then owner does everything weekend or chosen 2 days themself from £60 upwards depending again on each persons needs but again I found quite a few for £60 with very decent facilities and hacking Hope that helps Sent from my GT-I9505 using proboards
