I'm a bit confused, I bought a pony 18 months ago and last year a true to register her with the bsps and they sent me a transfer of ownership form anyway I never filled it in as we had to cancel what I had registered for. So this year I've redone her member ship and they have still sent me this back? Why do I need to do this? I've paid to have her passport updated and. Her membership under my name (£72 for me and her) I don't understand what the transfers for as it is a new season...
Under ponies uk I didn't have to pay to transfer her just did the membership as normal like the others
Thanks if anyone can help

You need to pay a £20 transfer of ownership to BSPS as well as annual membership for you & pony.

And the PASSPORT is a different issue. Change of OWNERSHIP needed to be changed with the Passport Issuing Authority (PIO) - that is her Stud Book of origin.
The BSPS is not a PIO. It is a Showing Society, not a Breed Registration Society and as Philippa correctly states, BSPS 'Registration' is ANNUAL, for the current Showing Season.
It is vital that Breed and Showing bodies know who is the current legal owner of an animal.
Hope this helps.

Okay... Just seems to be the only society I've needed to pay extra to do this. Puk said if it was te start of a new season it didn't matter along with ncpa. As far as I was concerned it was a NEW membership and I am the legal owner on the form I filled out for £31 I wouldn't have thought it would be a problem to alter a name... (Which shouldn't be an alteration as it's a new membership)

bubbles 1822 - NCPA has a transfer of ownership fee of £5 (animals are registered for life) but sometimes the transfer is never done so we do not know the pony has changed hands (or even if it is sadly no longer with us) unless we are notified.
HOWEVER - if the animal was entered at our shows we would hope that the current owner would wish to be acknowledged & therefore pay the small administration fee.
Office time & resources cost money so have to be covered, but as our register of animals goes back 50 years (pre computerised records for our association!) it is not always possible to check that the transfer has been made.
Regarding BSPS - your membership maybe new but the animal is still on their system with another owner, and needs to be transferred to your ownership on their system as well as registered with them for the current year - two separate actions/issues. If the pony had remained with the previous owners only a current registration would have been required - one action/issue.
