I have a traditional who I have had a series of injections from the vet for this and used other options including frontline. Nothing seems to be shifting them. has anybody got any other suggestions or past experiences to get rid of them?

Is it definitely mites? Ours gets scabs on the back of his knees but not caused by mites so the Dectomax injections etc didn't work. We have used Lime Sulphur wash quite successfully but nothing has completely cured him.

Try rubbing vinegar into the areas, it alters the ph of the skin and nothing can live on the area then. If white feathers use colouress vinegar.
It does take a while because they will be in your bedding & grooming brushes etc.
Just keep using it, but do remember don't go mad because vinegar is an acid. I used it every 3 or 4 days and it got rid of a really bad infestation. Couldn't use pigoil & S as it was too strong for her skin.

Thankyou for all your replies. I have used lime sulphur this week and have pig oiled tonight. She has got a scab behind one knee, she doesn't seem to be stamping as much so hopefully that is working.

I've struggled with this all winter. I used lime and sulphur wash as directed and it seemed to work. Then it started again. This time I used benzyl benzoate and have had no recurrence - yet. As I understand it, the life cycle on the host is 3 weeks but they incubate in the soil for 6 weeks. They are a nightmare ?

A new study carried out in Glasgow recently used benzoyl peroxide shampoo followed by sulphurated lime dip. No need to chuck out bedding or if carried out properly clip heels ! We followed it to the letter and one cured first go, other cob took three treatments. Been clear two months. We asked our vet before we started whilst he was giving jabs, he hadn't heard of the trial so went away and checked. He then gave us prescriptions to get on line because it would be cheaper than via the surgery. Not cheap products. The trial was carried out on animals with resistance to other treatments as well as control animals. Still no licensed products for horses ? Just google mites, horses and Glasgow , full paper available to view. Both boys happiest we have ever seen them.
