Hi all I have a horse with hay fever, he's fine all winter then come spring he's sneezing, he wears a nose net when riding at home and out on hacks. I was wondering if feeding tumeric would help? I've bought some manuka honey to try but it very expensive so was looking for something else that maybe able to help. Any advice greatly appreciated
Thanks Louise

Definitely worth giving it a try, don't forget to mix with olive oil and ground black pepper. Seems to work with most things and at least it's not expensive. If you are not already a member join the turmeric user group on facebook, loads of information there. Good luck.

You need to add olive oil and ground pepper to activate it, if that's the right term, so that it gets into the system. Start off with small amount, i.e. one or two teaspoons of turmeric, table spoon of olive oil and about three to five turns of the pepper mill. The aim is to make it into a paste so might need a bit more oil, increase as you see fit, however my best advice is join the user group as loads of information there. I use it for myself and it really does work. I have found that I don't need to take Ibuprofen like I used to do which has to be a good thing. Turmeric is a natural anti-inflammatory and has many other benefit too so well worth looking into.

golden paste is generally made with virgin coconut oil or virgin olive oil and it is then cooked as it is a lot more effective, the turmeric user group on facebook has a lot of information and the recipe how to make it.

I don't bother making it into a paste and just add to a small feed, but it has had a positive impact on my arthritic mare who is back to cavorting around the field again. I feed it with micronised linseed as you can use most types of oil - there are details of why you should use oil and black pepper on the Turmeric Users Group file pages on FB but basically, the oil helps it be absorbed by the appropriate part of the gut (rather than just passing through) and the black pepper helps activate the active ingredient (curcumin).

Make sure you check the curcumin level. Needs to be more than 3% to work, so worth paying a little extra for better quality. I also buy mine of ebay. Good luck x
