My coloured cob has lost part of her mane. Only a small section and she losing it on the underside, I have put some pics below so you can see what I mean. She isn't rubbing on anything and it isn't lice. The rest of her mane is mainly black which is not affected and there is another small section of white that also seems to be fine. She's not tender or sore in anyway and its not in a place where the rug can rub it. Does anyone else know what could cause it?
Thanks in advance.

has she had a combo on ,,, if so the mane needs air to breath ,,, if the mane is covered all the time it will start to fall out

No, she hasn't had any hoods or neck covers on for weeks. She has over the winter but this has only just happened.

It's not easy to see from the photos but those little scabs in her mane indicate that she is rubbing somehow, I know you've said not but my horse had an allergy to mites and his skin had those scabs in it. Very similar to my sweetitch horse. I'd give her a good bath with an insecticidal shampoo. Mites don't always present the way we expect! They took me by surprise! Horses are a learning curve.

I've put some Aloe Vera on it and it seems to be getting better. (Touch wood). And I agree Chalky, you always learn something new everyday with horses.

Just had another thought after rereading your post. Could it possibly be sunburn? ? As you said it's only on the pink bit!!!
