I am looking for opinions on van type vs other types of 3.5 ton horseboxes. We are looking to buy a 3.5 ton horsebox but several friends have said they're not sure about the van type. They don't seem substantial enough to carry a horse? We have a budget of 10k and have noticed the van types are definitely cheaper. Does anyone have experience of having a van type and what do you think?

IMO the van type would only be suitable for ponies 14.2hh and under ,,, A , for stability , and B , for the wieght limit,,,,we had a small 3,5t , vauxhall Mavano box not a van , but small lorry ,,, easily take 2 ponies , but only one horse, lovely drive ,,, but you know it if the horse moves around

My daughter has just got a Bloomfields Legacy. We did a 500 mile round trip on a windy day , it never moved in the wind and the horse travelled really well. Was brilliant empty and loaded - the payload will safely travel one plus all tack etc. We will only put two in locally with very little fuel.

I know that the Wheways use a van type for transporting, all around the country, and they probably get 15.2s on it. Im personally not a fan of 3.5 tons and actuslly prefer the older types, rather than them facing backwards as all of ours hate it!

I love my van, as it is so easy in all ways, however our biggest pony is 14.1hh. I wouldn't want to carry horses in it. It is a no extras conversion, with a good payload of 1.3t, so can easily carry two of our ponies.
