hi I'm looking at what people feed for weight gain. Its for my old chap that isn't ridden so if its heating it doesn't matter. in the past (quite a while ago now) he was on topspec balancer, the calmer and the super conditioning flakes and he seemed to do well on them but was ultra sharp. that wouldn't matter now but we are talking 10 years ago and just wondered if there were newer options.
I'm currently feeding him D&H build up mix, equijewel, and a chop.
Pay day next week so was thinking alfa a oil as a chop, mixed flakes and carry on with equijewel.
Horse is 15.2 Irish TB 20 something who apparently has been loosing weight over winter (he has been out on loan and I was unaware). Currently on ad lib hay (swapping to haylage shortly - had to share with my chubby mare so no choice until now) and out grazing during the day. Having 2 hard feeds a day.
Any opinions appreciated.
Thanks

Have you had him tested for cushings etc?

Maybe try 4 feeds throughout the day making them smaller rather than 2 big feeds?

I have a 31 year old 16.2 sports horse who dropped weight last year spoke to Anna at top spec who recommended three different feeds one was top spec senior balancer, cool conditioning cubes and a chop. I saw great results in a month and intend putting him on the same again this year. Hope this helps plus had no adverse affects on temperament and no fizziness just good Wright gain. Jo

Hi inkjet Also forgot to mention my boy had fibre plus cubes in his night time too. All feed was soaked as he has minimal teeth bless but still eats like there's no tomorrow lol. Jo
