Any other ideas how to help get rid of it? Reduce the size? Will magnetic boots help?

ive had 2 with splints, both in the following months turned out to have issues behind which had obviously caused overloading to the front limbs. once hind end issues were resolved splints disappeared of their own accord and both are back out showing. not always the case but something to bear in mind. hope yours sort out

My best advice is to put ice packs on it -wrapped first so as not to cause an ice burn, but If he is lame, he will have inflammation, and the last thing to do is create extra heat with magnetic boots of any sort! I was taught this by an old vet many years ago, and it really is the best treatment IMO, and many others too!!

Vet originally said turn away but mud so deep and sticky she felt would do more harm than good atm
We'll give him the break he's got to have a sarcoid removed aswell so get it all done and give him a break
Just Annoying when they've had winter off then come back into work and do something stupid but oh well he's a pony not a machine and we'll get on with her other pony instead

Rest and cold water boots to help reduce the inflammation. Definitely not magnetic boots at the moment. Hope the issue resolves, if it's a young horse there is a better chance of resolution naturally.

My youngster through two whilst out in the field towards the end of last summer. I gave him 3 months rest and for the first 3 weeks I used splintex and bandaged (they have to be on complete box rest and kept dry whilst you are doing this or they will blister.) After that I used ice vibe boots (with ice packs) once a day. You wouldn't know they was there now unless you had a real close look.
I did hours of research on splints but I think its always just down to time.

I have to agree with some of the above posts about time! My 2 yr old colt threw up a huge splint about a year ago. We did apply some anti inflammatory stuff from the vet for around 10 days but it didn't appear to make a difference and we stopped it early as it seemed to be irritating him. He is 3 now and you would not know he had a splint. I generally just wait for the splint to disappear. Easier I know when it is on a baby.

As dogandbone has said above. You need to keep the area cold to reduce the inflammation at this acute stage. Magnetic boots are definitely a no no at this stage as is any rubbing (which brings heat to the area) especially with oil. My advice is to give your pony plenty of time, follow vets advice and no one elses, do not ask for advice from a forum (you have a vet for that) and do not use any lotions, potions or follow any old wives tails. The bone will remodel in its own time and mother nature will take over from the vet.

Just the prescribed gel from vet on leg, was given 10 days of danillon and is on box rest. Has reduced in size already

years ago we had a pony who had a splint, he wasn't lame on it, but it didn't go down, it was eventually Xrayed, he actually had a fracture of the splint bone! as he was insured it was operated on, 6 weeks box rest, he was fine no splint and even passed a 5 stage vet a couple of years later
