Looking for recommendations on weight gain feeds, my daughters 14hh is currently having barbury ready mash extra, conditioning cubes, chaff & micronized linseed, however she really isn't keen on the ready mash, so looking for something else to replace it, which is a non heating feed but will help with weight gain. At this time of year, grass is the best option if you can give her turn out, failing that ad lib hay/haylage. As far as bucket feeds go, I'd be with jacksprat. Alfalfa/oil will provide more calories for your given quantity of chaff ration, TS conditioning cubes contain no cereals but are designed to be fed with their balancer, and unmolassed sugarbeet is always a winner. I've used Equijewel with success too, which is basically high oil rice bran.

Try Havens mash ,we had the same problem with Rowenbarry mash but Havens is a much better smell and is therefore much more appetising .Try Sumo original as a supplement too .

Thank you all for your replies, will make some gradual changes and see how we go, sure Dr green will do the trick eventually but is slow to come through at the moment.

Tell me about it, our grass is very slow and it's due to get cold again next week, I've just watched the weather forecast.

Assuming that his teeth and worming routine are up to date, make whatever change you maake gradually. If he is a fussy eater feed last in the queque as he will think he is being left out and will be more eager to eat his feed. I am very lucky that my grass is growing quicker thqan the sheep are eating it I used to feed boiled barley which they all loved
