We had our fields sprayed this year to get rid of buttercups, by a local farmer.

it means you have poor drainage, top and chain harrow to start with, regular good management will get rid of them

alot of sprays are now liscensed , so you would probably need to ask a local farmer to spray for you for it to be the right successful spray sx

Thank you, I can also ask, gillwales said to top first, I cant fit a tractor in through the gate, is it safe to use a sit on lawn mower and leave the cuttings down, then harrow and spray when better weather? if so, how long before the other horses are safe to go on the paddock after cutting with sit on lawnmower. Thanks x

Does your mower have a collection box? If so you could do that with the mower set high, you only need to top the areas infected. You need to read the instructions on the spray, they vary so it would not be safe for anyone to say. My saying about topping was really instead of spraying as it will help to stop them spreading. How does your land lay? i.e. is it always wet? You might need to do something about drainage. The best advise to to ask a local farmer what they recommend as they will know what works in your area.

Thanks gillwales, Its a yard that I have just taken over and rent, and needs a lot of work!!! to much grass to collect as the Buttercups are everywhere, so need to cut and leave it down! so was wondering how long before its safe? My Plan was to mow, harrow, and then spray in spring! There been no proper management for years and the owner doesn't want the hassle or expensive! Advise needed plse.Thankx

It took me 2 years to spray and get rid of buttercups in neglected land. Done with a knapsack sprayer in spring.

so if you cut grass and leave on the ground it eventually shrivals up and disapears, the length of time will be determined on a variety of things, length and thickness of grass.. or buttercups, amount of sunshine, wind. So I think I would suck it and see... try doing a patch you can cordon off.

Good advice above. Round us they also spread chalk which is very effective.
