After looking at the results for Great Yorkshire and being unable to find New Forest results I went on to the Hoys website to look at allocation. New Forests had no class at the show. I then added up the number of qualifiers (if I can count right...)
Welsh D - 24 (all single breed qualifiers) Connemara - 22 (all single breed qualifiers) Highlands - 21 (11 single, 10 mixed with dales, fells & NF) Dales - 20 Fells - 19 New Forests - 17 (10 single, 7 mixed with F, D and H)
So not only do they have to compete in a mixed class with other breeds for nearly half their qualifiers, they then get less qualifiers too.
Anyone know why it's not split fairly? It seems a lot harder for some breeds than others to get the opportunity to promote their breed at the biggest show of the year.
I appreciate Welsh classes have more in but maybe this is why as they have more chances. In the last few years the hairiest classes have been huge but they still have less qualifiers and some are mixed, so have a similar loss as to the New Forests.

yes i believe the small breeds have a mix of 13 qualifiers (mainly midlands and north!) and then the dartmoors get 3 individual ones! so 16 in total. Not sure why as the welsh are individual and then get another extra 3 qualifiers on top (small breeds) larges get even more!

Yes I didn't count small breeds as well just because of time.
Why is it not equal Qualifiers amongst all breeds?

I suppose because some breeds are not as popular as others. If you have more qualifiers for the less popular breeds you risk lesser quality animals qualifying.
I suppose on the flip side you could argue that breeds won't get more popular in showing until there are more options open to them but it really is a chicken and egg situation.
