Just wondering if anyone else has had problems claiming loss of earnings after doing jury service? I'm self employed and having real problems claiming loss of earnings after doing jury service in November - had the expenses sheet sent back twice and the most unhelpful woman on the phone. I haven't been self employed long enough to have done a tax return, and due to a complication am still awaiting the reference number thing. I have provided a bank statement highlighting the money going on from various jobs, and also done a letter signed by my main client stating what I do etc But this apparently isn't enough and they will not pay it until I have proof from hmrc that I am self employed AND she wants me to get my client to write a letter, with address, phone number etc stating what I earn for services.
I don't really understand why exactly I need my client to write a letter? Nor why I haven't proved enough that I am self employed and what I have lost whilst doing the jury service.
Furious isn't even the right word to describe it, I haven't been able to make various payments and bills because of this, not that the woman on the phone gave a d**n but I do! Any advice would be greatly received as I really need this sorted.

What a pain in the butt! Have you any idea when you are going to get your UTR off HMRC or are they being their usual inept self? I will ask on my bookkeeping forum if anyone has ever come across this and have any ideas if you would like?
