Bit of a long story but will try and keep it as short as possible.
Took a flyer on a pony last year. Bought from the field hadn't done much just lightly backed. Brought pony on and was doing fantastic competing ect ect.
Coming up to 12 months and annual jabs time. Vet comes and checks heart and she has a serious heart murmur deemed unfit to be ridden. (Child's pony of 12hh so not safe for kids)
Was toying with pts as only young and wouldn't pass her on as a companion as you never know where they end up.
Got offered a good opportunity for her to go to someone to live out and be a pony.
Pony doesn't want to be a pony it seems!
She is over an hour away from me. I still pay for keep ie workers, farrier ect just not chantged livery.
Cut a long story short she needs to see the vet as it seems her eye may have an ulcer on it. I went to see her at weekend and was gutted as she has dropped weight and is coughing quite a bit (dropped weight I expected as obviously it's winter) other 2 horses on the field are good doers so keep putting hayledge in the field not an option.
Anyway I am feeling out of control due to being so far away. Lady doesn't want to rug her where she is.
So basically what do I do? Financially and time wise I will struggle to bring her home and look after her full time and there are no yards near me bar expensive ones with lots of facilities that cost quite a bit.
I have found a reasonable one that is a possibility though.
I don't want to bring her home just to have to have her pts in a couple of months due to heart or eye or any other issue but can't stop thinking about her being out as she just wanted to come home with me. She was spoilt rotten when with me. Massive nets massive bed big huge stable and a rug for each day lol (sad I know) so spilt princess to feral pony isn't quite working for her I don't think but do I put her through the stress of moving again? Bight the bullet and pts or leave her where she is and see it through with the living out situation?
Sorry for the long post any advice appreciated.
