Yes Molly got champion, very well done! the ring was horrible, alot of the ponies found it hard to go forward properly.. even the judge said to me in the ring that the ponies were finding it hard today!

I didn't go so no idea what rings actually were like, and pot holes and rough definitely doesn't sound good but I'm rather bemused at the apparent horrified reaction to ponies being asked to gallop 'downhill'. Supposed to be a hunter class, albeit show hunters! (and it sounds like Intermediaytes and bigger ponies in particular, not the little dots on small ponies). Any animal that can only cope with a flat smooth surface should perhaps consider toddling off and doing pure dressage instead - a well balanced, well put together animal should be able to cope with a bit of gradient - in any pace IMHO. And how will they cope at Hickstead if they go there??! And rein back isn't rocket science, but just part of everyday schooling - I wouldn't expect it in a FR, and maybe not a green novice (though my pony could rein back obediently within weeks of being backed) but it shouldn't be such a big deal. Rant over

Looks like there may have to be changes again next year then. So folks are happy with not being near the public entertainment but not the size of the ring. The public coming in the other way was unfortunately to do with the police who closed the rd leading to the public car park and directed them to the lorry entrance. I am afraid due to the showground the rings are never going to be flat, the mud mounds were supposed to fill in the ruts but that obviously didnt help!! I will suggest some changes for next year. I didnt mind being near the public entertainment it was far better where it was last year than this year, Other than that it was a very nice show! Thank you for an enjoyable day out !

Rant over I agree they shouldnt just be able to go on flat surfaces but this was horrific and as you said you wasnt there so you wouldnt know how bad it was so dont really understand your rant as your commenrting on something you never saw As for rein back i said most of them done it and if you had never tried it well done as i know there was still some babies in the RIHS classes just for experience and im sure they have never done it before but coped with it brilliantly!! RIHS ring is fantastic i think if the ring at south suffolk was anything like hickstead trust me there would have been no problems , i think if you ask any competitor there favourite bit will be galloping up that hill as it is so much FUN !! ;D So dont really understand your rant but thanks for your input! as for judging you saw no facey buisness going on ! although some of the results i did find strange and i would have changed around but that judges opinion on the day . Thats showing at the end of the day, if we all had the same opinion there would be no point in attending shows as the same one would always win ! !

I have spoken to the secretary and all obsevations have been taken into account and the ring for the SHP/SP will be made larger and will have a better surface. We changed it to suit the complaints last year and we will try and do the same for next year. We want to keep the show prestigious and continue to have the good amount and quality of entries we can.

It was the (over?)reaction that perplexed me. Glad to hear the judging met with approval anyway, that's a novelty
