Anyone else think the ring where the show ponys and hunter ponys in was awaful??
one it was tiny, mud mounds on the track, ruts everywhere and uneven ground and on a hill going down!
Looked hard for the intermediates and the 14hh and 15hh to do there shows as by the time they had showed about two strides of extension they had to pull up because they was about to go down hill. Not as bad for the smaller ones as littler strides but some of them even found it difficult! 13hh ,14hh, 15hh also had to do rein back in there shows which was quite strange as never seen hunter ponies have to do this before luckily most of them did it, but i think sometimes it was by luck rather that them actually knowing how to do it! Clever ponies and jockeys if you had never tried a rein back before and pulled it off!
Anyone else find this ring bad??

Can't comment on the hunter ring but i have 2 points to be used as constructive critisism. We were in ring 4 M&M, now I have not been to this show for 3 years and I knew that all the rings had changed etc but A) would it have been so hard to put up a piece of laminated paper to say Ring 4 this way (you had to walk onto the racecourse which was roped off, it was not until nearly too late that I figured out you had to go in further up the racecourse and I'm not stupd really I'm not!! B) was that the ground in Ring 4 was awful I was showing in hand and the potholes and general unevenness of the ring made it very hard for me to trot up without turning one or both my ankles over!! Very rutting.
Otherwise it was a well run show that I really enjoyed!!

I think the whole showground is on a slight hill isnt it?

Yes it is on a slight hill but some points of the showground are steeper than others Still no exscuse for the ruts, mud mounds and a ring the size of a postage stamp and with orange tarpoling flapping on the edge though!

Wasn't in that ring so cant comment on that however the ring I did use was fantastic compared to last year. Was a good show.

Pigsear was you in the nice ring on your left as if you was walking down from the lorry park near the trampolines and food area? If so the show ponys and hunter ponies were over there last year and i agree them rings are lovely !!
;DAlso well done for coming fourth you should be chuffed with yourself and glad you had a good day ! ;D

Yes I was in the large ring on the right as walking down from the lorry park. I didnt see any trampolines tho! It did look busy this year, looked as tho they were parking the public in the lorry park!
Was well chuffed for being pulled up to 4th. First outing since last August too.

Well very well done!
yes the rings to the right are far better than the postage stamp we got hehe
yeah they were parking public in the horsebox area! bit dangerous really as all the public were having to walk through the working in area outside the rings to go and watch and people were having to swerve round them when they decided to stop for a chat in the middle! !!

People were probably having to swerve round me and my cobs backside too!!!!
There was a lot of people congrigated in the warming up area for some reason.

I'm sure that Joyce Coltart has asked for rein backs in hunter ponies before - this is the only time i've seen it asked for though...in shp that is. The ponies really should be able to show their versatility and that they don't just go round stuck to the fence...and it seems they were versatile by what you are saying

Looks like there may have to be changes again next year then. So folks are happy with not being near the public entertainment but not the size of the ring. The public coming in the other way was unfortunately to do with the police who closed the rd leading to the public car park and directed them to the lorry entrance. I am afraid due to the showground the rings are never going to be flat, the mud mounds were supposed to fill in the ruts but that obviously didnt help!! I will suggest some changes for next year.

We did a couple of shp classes and neither rider was asked to rein back! It was just a free stlyle show. We thought the ring was terrible but shp judge was good and fair.
