They are all online at Devon County Show's website
There was a nasty incident where a couple of ponies pulling a plough somehow managed to decant their driver and went berserk into the adjacent ring. It was racing around, with its plough swinging out behind in a ring with little kids riding! I don't think anyone one was hurt, but some child or pony could so easily have been killed.

It really was the most frightening episode to watch - let alone if you were one of the children in the 133shp class! The judge and the stewards reacted brilliantly and got all but one of the ponies out of the ring JUST in time, although there was a grey pony, Harry Potter I believe, who had an unbelievably near miss with the plough. There was one ponyl left at the other side of the ring - it was doing its show at the time and behaved absolutely impeccably. Eventually, the jockey got off, an adult got the pony and ran out of the ring and the child lept over the ring fence to safety. The result could have been very different!

Yes, there could have been a very nasty accident. Praise to the stewards and judge for getting most of the ponies to safety.
Also, well done to the handler who, in the end, leapt infront of the pair to catch them - it was pretty brave of you!
Apparently Devon County have been using a similar timetable for about 10 years. I think it has been an accident waiting to happen. To have Heavy Horses and Children's Ponies in the same ring can't be a good idea.

The incident on Saturday was the most frightening thing I have ever seen. It was very very lucky nobody was injured or killed. It was 2 shire horses that got loose pulling a metal plough. They just galloped blindly through the line up of the SHP.
Before this accident the SHP ponies were already very upset in the ring. One reared up and nearly went over backwards. How can a judge, judge a class fairly. If the shires were standing still, when you did your show you were ok but if one was on the move the poor jockey had no chance of doing a decent show.
Anybody with the slightest knowledge of horses would realise that shire horses pulling carriages do not mix well with children riding ponies !! There was not even a solid barrier between the two classes - They were in the same ring. What happened to Health and Safety.
There was M&M FR in the next door ring and they also got upset by the incident.
If Devon County carry on with no regard for the safety for there young exhibitors then they will get very few entries in the future.
I am so glad I did not have a pony in the ring at the time as an incident like that could screw up a pony for a long time.
When will Devon County learn. Does it take someone to be killed before they take notice.

our trailer was right next to the ring and we saw the whole sorry incident. the poor girl with her lovely chestnut (who later won the class) was clearly terrified and was led off by her mum, and the pony was nervous too. it had clearly shaken him as in the championship he unseated his rider whilst galloping, and she hurt her leg, needing the paramedics! the commentator was like "everybody STAND STILL, DON'T MOVE" and it was well scary......

It was one of the most terrifying incidents I've ever seen so many people were distressed by it . The judges and stewards did a sterling job. When will the organisers of Devon County learn, for years we put up with the drays parading past the ring when the LR and FR were in, year after year there were accidents as ponies bolted or unseated there tiny jockeys it took the withdrawal of sponsership money to get them to change. Now we have SHP on one side and shires pulling very noisy and potetially dangerous equipment on the other side of the ring with NO barrier at all. the ring was divided by a line of cut fir tree branches. I hope the jockeys and ponies involved are all right. Please write to Devon county with your views if you were there.

Oh I missed that! Saw the 133cms pony dislodge rider in championship though.
anyway agree with person above no point writing about it on here. The organisers need to know exhibitors comments.
Old fashioned pen and paper will have to be used I'm afraid as this sort of complaint will fair better. Such a shame the Shires couldn't go inthe min ring. What an attractions they are! Or did they?

to be honest i think the judging of the m&m FR was quite ridiculous as the ponies that actually went well were down the end of the line! also the LR and FR took over an hour to judge!

Which FR were you watching ponylover?I watched the whole class and thought it was about right, those with sensible, well mannered ponies were brought up after the shows, and no, I didnt have a child or pony in the class.

Devon county have had the heavy horses on at the same time as children's ponies for as long as i can remember. When i was on my 13hh about 7 yrs ago it was the exactly the same time table and sent all the ponies bonkers ( and i do believe that this was the same timing in years previous). Thank god that nobody was hurt!!! Hopefully this will make the officials realise how dangerous it is not to mention the pathetic ring divide (a flimsy piece of fur tree!). If anyone wants to write in to complain go to the JPP Photography website and you will find photo evidence of the accident. A picture speaks a thousand words after all !!!
