having been to many many shows over the last 20 years or so, i was totally confused/flabergasted at witnessing the most crazy judging i have ever seen. You could here the other spectators gasping, as this judge pulled them in,,,,some were even howling with laughter at her. This lady is a panel judge and hadnt got a clue AT ALL why do these societies allow such judges to continue judging?? And NO i was not showing( so NO sour grapes or jealousy) just went to watch for the day...and what a day!!!! I really do feel for those folk who had some v. nice animals that could move too...and didnt get a look in....i suppose at least she wasnt judging faces!!!!

I think that as long as you didn't have a colt or a stallion , you were OK! in the Ds, the one colt that did win as the class was all colts and the stallion that was 2nd to a mare were both literally THROWN out of the championship. This reflects on the WPCS but I doubt that anything will be done! Several judges were showing. Only one that had a mare was placed 1st and didn't win the championship!

How does this reflect on the wpcs, once a judge is accepted on to the panel, its up to him/her to make their own descisions, as for the fact that judges showing were put down, I would have thought that that meant the judge was going for personal preference not faces, a point I thought would be applauded on this site, perhaps this judge was a stickler for straightness, or didnt like heavy shoes or fat or some such thing . I would rather exhibit under someone who picks animals because they like them rather than who is on the end of the rope.

Here we go again. Mrs Lucas is a lovely lady and has a personal Preferance on Type, Movement etc.... I was not at the show so can not comment on what was under her.
It would be very boring if the judges all liked the same.
I'm sure you would have been moning if a Producer/big name won all the classes.

The judge in the C & D in hand was on cloud cuckoo land.In the three classes that we watched the judge was way off mark she put a sec C gelding first and reserve champion that had previously come last in the HOYS ridden section, had a double bridle on, the young girl looked confused and bewildered to see below her two top class stallions. In the yearling class she put to win an animal who will be unlikely to win ever again! This must be very frustrating for the competitors.

Excuse me "Watchful", I too was confused by some of the judging however I would like to point out that my own Glynwyn Predicts a Riot won the yealring class! This pony since we owned him last Oct Won at the National Foal Show, Won at East Mids Foal Show, Won at Midlands Welsh Foal, Won at PUK Winter Champs, Won at Lincs and East Mids Foal and won at NPS Foal show at Selby, this doesnt even mention the good 2nd placings he has received!! I would also like to point out that whilst in the ownership of his breeded the Heppenstall family he medalled at Midland Counties show last year whilst still on his mum!!!! Along with many other very good wins! Whilst everyone is entitled to an opinion the world would be a very boring place if we all liked the same things!! Also perhaps maybe it is yourself who is not sure how to judge a good pony as surely the judges at all of the above shows could not be wrong? !!!!!!!!

the judging was certainly very odd! The 4 years and over C class was farcical! The best show was given by the mare, who was dumped. The gelding that won was just not good enough to beat its competitors, and should never have won the class. Top class stallions, who didn't get a look in, absolutely farcical! dont know this judge, but if she ever had it in the first place has certainly lost it!!

As I wasn't there to witness the judging I can't really put my opinion forward, however there are a few comments on here that seem a bit strange.
Watchful wrote - "she put a sec C gelding first and reserve champion that had previously come last in the HOYS ridden section, had a double bridle on"
I don't really see what any of that has to do with the placings, its is not incorrect to show a gelding in its ridden bridle and neither does it matter if a pony was placed first or last in a ridden class, this is an inhand class (but perhaps you cannot understand the difference).
Bronco - "The best show was given by the mare, who was dumped"
Again, this is not a ridden or performance class and surley should be judged on breed type/conformation etc. and yes, I understand that movement plays a big part but an in-hand class should not be based purley upon how well an animal trotted out.
Watchful - "In the yearling class she put to win an animal who will be unlikely to win ever again!"
Another odd remark, I have seen this pony win on many an occasion and he has always been in top condition and caught my eye many times.
On many threads you all seem to complain that only the producers & faces get placed, but when a judge does place animals according to their own type you don't seem to understand. Perhaps a lot of you also judge classes by the face without actually realising it and find it hard to look past the glitz to see the pony underneath.

That is a very valid point - not looked at it like that before!
