Have just been doing some HOYS entries as several start closing entries next week and it amazes me the difference in entry fees between shows. Including the £9 HOYS contribution, so far the cheapest seems to be Stithians @ £19 per entry and the most expensive is The Royal which is a staggering £45.50 per entry. How can there be such a difference?
The other catch seems to be that all the qualifying shows through to end July which tend to be county shows have early closing dates - April and May - which are before any of the HOYS qualifiers actually start (for SHPs) on 9th June down South,
So you have to commit to entries now without the chance of waiting to see if you are lucky enough to qualify at any of the early ones.

Stithans sounds very good value, at the royal 2nd pony or horse if i read it correctly is 27.50 or something like that, not bad if you have 2 to take!
life is a bit unfair when its out to get our money, but sometimes what you lose on the swings you may gain on the roundabout's.
I always hope to cover the cost of the stabling at the summer shows with prize money ( well that the aim) we mostly do and then makes my summer.

Agree, April is a nightmare month for entries.....I have already spent at least £500 on entries and still have another 5 county shows to enter......
I suppose that the cost is reflectant on the size & venue of the show.....but in reality it is a bit of a rip off!
Even worse once you have spent all that money on entering and joyously qualify it is a staggering amount of money to then enter the class at HOYS.....plus stabling.......think it was about £140 per pony last year.......

YES £6 is far to much but if you add up all the competitors it very nearly pays for all the hire of the ground

Where in the Royal Schedule does it mention a discount for 2nd pony?? Will have to re read when I am home this evening!!!! Still one of my favourite shows, even if it is pricey.

I have heard that you do not get the HOYS qualifying rosette anymore in the ring, they now post it on to you at a later date. I feel this takes away some of the fun of qualifying.
Also NPS Summer Champs is £7 for First Aid??? I tink paramedic prices must have gone up??

I'm not infront of my Royal schedule either, but I think from memory its not for a second pony, only a second class for a pony that is already entered.

I agree with ifonly. I have just entered PUK South, medic cost is £6 on the Saturday, I am going to Newbury again on the Monday with my plaited WHP and the medic fee is £3. I was at a show there 2 weeks ago and the medic fee was £2........why the difference? Personally, I feel the entry fees at PUK South are too high anyway if you are not a member

I agree - and when you add up the price of your entry for HOYS (if you are lucky enough to get a qualifying ticket) with all the HOYS levies from all the qualifying shows you enter (not to mention entries, diesel, stabling etc.) your class at the NEC is indeed very expensive! I suppose you just have to make the most of the experience though and really enjoy it!
