I doubt I will get anymore updates as the eyes and ears was only watching the HOYS coloured classes and will have gone to drown their sorrows in the beer tent but I will see what I can find out for you all

LOL Tessy, don't blame them .... beer tent is always a good option, whether your drowning sorrows or celebrating, there's always an excuse to make use of it LOL

Gosh - I've heard so many complaints (from competitors) about the HOYS judging yesterday.
Judge asked for a set show including walk to canter and a gallop. Those who did not do either were not marked highly, regardless of what "extras" they added in. How hard is this to understand?
There were people who did not show a good walk to canter (or even attempt one) who were moaning because they did not recieve high ride marks!!
I thought the judging was excellent and marks reflected what happened for a change and the set show certainly caught a fair few out!
Only downside (yet again!) was that the stewards are still adding up wrong! A pony should have been in 4th yet was completely missed off the results!

the winner of the small hairies didn't do a walk to canter.it was attempted and it ended up just running into canter eventually from a fast trot.did no gallop either and got 48 for ride.mmmmmmmm

I thought the judging was good and reflected what went on in the shows. People that didnt do the required moves well weren't marked well! I was quite shocked at the standard of schooling in the classes that when ponies were asked to do something a bit extra they really couldn't! This is not a dig at anyone on this thread (that I know of!) - I also think that some people at the ringside really need to have a good look at their own ponies before they go and decide that the judging was 'facey' and that of course theirs deserved to win....

Hey Frobster. Do you have the points for the small hairy class? Which pony was missed off 4th?? I wasn't at the show but it was my friends pony Hullabaloo that got missed out of the placings altogether!! :-/she only realised when she went to check her marks later. Dont know if they were told walk to canter or not she just said something about she had to walk across the diagonal?

i was in the hairy ponies class yest and the horse in front of me did not walk at all across the diagonal and was still placed i was then told by the ride judge i want to see a walk across the diagonal, NO mention of the walk to canter ..... i think thats when there is a set show it should be relayed back to the competitors by the judge or steward.

There does often seem to be confusion when a set show is required - maybe where there is one, it should be posted outside the ring in advance of the class so competitors are all given the same information.

I was told only to do a walk accross the diagonal, walk to canter was attempted by some and when it was done badly these ponies were not placed, i think the judge could have been more specific when telling the show tho.
